boys are playing D this half, hope we see more of this.
They played good defense in the 1st half. The offense and TOs were why it was close.
The defense in the 2nd half was up there with some of our best defensive stretches from last year's group. Mo Dioubate can absolutely be a key player for us this season and he proved it tonight. Settled into playing a role on offense instead of forcing the issue, which allowed him to be an asset instead of a liability on that end. We absolutely could use his defense as long as he doesn't crater the offensive flow.
Grant Nelson on the other hand needs a therapist. He has so much talent, but would rather fade to the background too often instead of being aggressive. Played great defense to his credit and I've always thought he's been better there than given credit for, but man he's wasting his talent away.

With Arizona joining the BIG12 next year that conf is going to be a monster bball conf…but I didn’t even consider Houston joining as well.
Damn what a league.

Bama jumped to 58th in their KenPom defensive efficiency ranking after that performance.
Jumped close to 20 spots.

"Can't say enough about the energy in the 2nd half. I went to Dioubate at HT, asked him if he can get in there and mix it up. We only had 1 ORB in the 1st half, it was a Team REB. He came in and got 2 ORB out the gate. Finished with 6 REB in 9 MIN."

So, my dumb arse forgot it was at 6. I probably watched the first half in exactly 20 minutes. And I bet I'm fricking glad I wasn't around here during the first half.
But damn, they stepped up huge in the 2nd. Great defense today. Carolina looked like their will was broken in the 2nd half.

I know folks here love Cosby and shite on Dioubate but I’ve always liked Mo. He brings toughness and he actually has some ability going to the rim.
We don’t need more shooters. We need more guys like him. Toughness.

Oats was not happy after that Estrada pass to Nelson went out of bounds.
I'm not sure he was mad about that pass, or he thought someone fouled Nelson, holding his arms.
But Oats was made as hell. Look like he slapped a table or something.

Wish we had these officials that Auburn has. Getting away with murder under the rim and no whistles.

Yeah he can return next season. Probably will. Because of his height his only potential path to the NBA would be through the G league as an undrafted free agent so I expect he will come back to college for the NIL.
Everyone says that. But if he keeps it up, i could see a top team using a late 2nd to secure him on their g league team. Yeah, he's probably less than 6', and I'm not putting money on it. But it's a scenario I could see if he's averaging 20+with low turnovers after SEC play.

Dioubate is a surprisingly decent ball handler and passer. If he could just shoot it a little bit.
I've talked a ton of shite about him this season. The only compliment that I've given him is that he's dynamic athletically. But usually that turns into a runaway freight train and him forcing dumb stuff (like he's only played ISO ball with scrub teammates).
But tonight we saw what Oats sees in him. He's raw as hell. But he definitely showed what of potential that he has.

They played extremely well defensively tonight. I was impressed actually with everyone who step foot on the court.

Btw... How in the hell did we play our best D all year with Wague injured? He's been our best center all year.

Grant Nelson has a couple of issues...
Body (Needs to get stronger), Ball handling (versus better players), and his offensive game (Particularly his three point shooting)
Nelson is extremely skilled but he's extremely raw at this level of play. I'm sure Coach Oats would be on board with him coming back next season despite who they got coming in.

That...I don't know lol.
But I was happy to see it.

He must be playing well in practice because he has been getting more PT. He definitely seems like a guy who can be a successful junk man. I think Oats tracks bull collar points in practice and i could see that being Mo's way to playing time.

You keep saying that and theres literally no shot he gets drafted at his height. Teams don't just take a chance on a guard under 6 feet for the hell of it, the draft is only two rounds.
He has a shot to get to the NBA through the g league as an undrafted FA and it wouldn't surprise me if he made it to the NBA eventually.

If Jalen Brunson can get drafted 33rd overall, Sears can garner a late selection.

Same here. If he keeps playing tough defense and staying active on the glass he will get more minutes. He just needs to embrace the role player life the way Walters has. It's all you can expect of most freshmen and I wish more of them understood it. Way too many of them come in trying to play hero ball.

Brunson is legit 6’2 and they talk on first take every week about how he's too short to be an nba PG
If Sears was 6’2 he would have a small shot to get drafted he’s 6 feet at best.
