Defensively we are what we are. So we better score.

The only game I remember us not playing good on offense this year was vs Arizona, we were 8 of 40 from 3, we go 13 of 40 we win. Still we scored 74 points. The main reason we lost that game even though we didn't play good on offense was still our defense, we gave up 87 points.

If we can just go without fouling so much it would help a lot. Arizona scored 27 points against us at the foul line and Purdue scored 24 against us at the foul line.

One offensive issue we've had against some of the better teams is one that is hard to see from stats:

The opposing coach calls a TO and/or gets in his team's face and challenges them to step it up and get a handful of consecutive stops. They get in our faces on the perimeter and we have trouble creating good shots for a 5 or so minute period.

You can go back and forth arguing offense vs defense because we don't have the type defense that can withstand a 5 minute scoring drought without giving up a double digit run

However, I understand people pointing to some things that need to improve offensively since we're probably not going to ever be that good defensively this year.

Oats is going to find some answers to this as the season progresses but scoring a "crunch time basket" or when " it really feels like they need a basket this trip" when the defense is in our grills on the perimeter has been a key in most of our losses to good teams.

There's not a single person who doesn't know that Bama's defense continues to be an issue.
Anyone can say that if Bama's defense improves, there will be better results.
There were games we could have won if we hadn't fouled so many times. Anyone can say this. It's obvious.
But has the foul problem improved so far?
But let's think about it differently. Even though I fouled a lot, wouldn't there have been games where I could have won if my shooting success rate was a little better?
Why did Nelson attempt so many shots against Arizona?
But I said it before. We said this season that we brought in players who were weak on defense and strong on offense.
Still, the defense can improve little by little with experience.
However, the offense system can improve faster. This is because there are already many players with strengths in offense.
Oats said. He said there aren't many players who are good at defense this season, but there are a lot of players who can score on offense. If so, you just need to make a few more changes to the offense system.

Dude we are #1 in adjusted offense by a wide margin. We don't need to change the offfensive system.

That's a good comment.

You said Bama's offense is outstanding right now.

Let's talk based on your words.

Now, will the offense get better quickly? Will the defense get better quickly?

This means that defenses take time and experience and can improve slowly, but offenses can develop more quickly. This means that change is possible with a better shooting success rate.

Blake is lying, Fever. I was distinctly told that Sears was the only “shooter” and that Griffin was definitely not while Estrada was a “scorer” not a shooter.

I would love to see their 3pt % against teams best teams we played versus the bad ones.

Steam rolling weaker teams is great but it seems besides Purdue we are pretty average or even poor shooting 3s.

Yeah this was exactly what I thought. We shoot very well against poor opposition or teams who won't be physical with us

Then when we play teams who will be physical we usually shoot poorly with an exception being Purdue (we went cold in the 2nd half from what I remember).

If we actually shot near those good percentages against top teams we would be undefeated WITH this bad defense even with having no real Center as a anchor.

One thing I don't get is why doesn't Oats run plays for Walter's. The kid can flat out shoot it so why don't we rub a bunch of distraction to get him open looks the moment we start struggling? Better than watch Nelson miss another 3 lol

We had games vs good teams last year where we didnt shoot well and we still won. We only hit 7 threes vs Houston and only hit 8 vs Michigan State, the difference and the reason why we won those games was we held Houston to 65 points and we held Michigan State to 70 points. This year every decent team we’ve played except for one has scored 85 or more. Defense is the main problem, and fouling too much.

We are a different team than last year. I agree that last year we had a great defense, an anchor center... however we also had the best player in basketball and better guard play.

In the end we got knocked out of the tournament not because of defense... because we couldn't hit threes.

I agree though that defense is a huge problem. However so is the fact we only seem to shoot well consistently against the worse teams or non-physical ones. The minute teams realize this and become physical or we play a better team? Our shooting goes out the window.

We need that because we already know we don't have the talent to defend consistently (see the center position).

We were playing San Diego state when we got knocked out of the tournament and didn't hit threes because they had a great defense, they were the #4 defense in the country.

Arizona who we just played has the #2 defense in the country this season.

I get that.. you don't see the consistent theme?

We really need to hit those threes and if we don't (especially this season) we are screwed because as you stated defense is not good.

Our problem in my opinion is our roster isn't that good. I know you disagree and you're probably right because while I like basketball it's not like I used to play or know it as well or better than you or anyone else.

I think the main problem is the fouling, it’s nearly impossible to beat a top 5 team when theyre shooting 15 or 20 more free throws than you are.

Purdue shot 15 more free throws than we did and we lost by 6.

Creighton shot 16 more free throws than we did and we lost by 3.
