Ive been watching this clip of the long TD run. Im trying to figure out the play call. Cant see all 11 of our guys but the TE and RB stay in to block. Neither WR we can see runs much of a route. Was that a designed run? It doesnt look like QB draw, but that's kinda what it turned into. What do yall think was the play call there? Did he improvise or was it called? Any guesses as to what his reads are on that play?

Looks like a designed quick pass to Brooks running the little curl route. The edge rusher is immediately in his face blocking the throw, and causing him to have to vacate immediately. Seems like McClellan should have picked up the edge rusher.

But this was two seasons ago, so not a good indicator of where he is at now with making reads.

that clip was from last season.

Our offense was undisciplined last season.

The OC was over his head which is why he’s a position coach now.

Saban had shite coordinators lately and was too tired/old to make sure they were doing their jobs lately.

Been saying the same thing since Sark left.

Golding, Marrone and O’Brien were the result of Saban getting old and tired of the carousel of losing coaches. It really showed last year. Steele saved our asses several times last year or it would have been really bad.

Rees has a proven track record and didn't get a job because of the timing of Saban's retirement. You are not serious people

Best DC in years is proof Saban's failure with coaches?

What proven record? Notre Dame fans celebrated when we took him

After seeing that clip it brought me back to the running game. In my opinion Jalen handed the ball off and watched the play develop a lot. Especially earlier in the season. I think the safeties could read the Rb's

It was nice to realize that the "Bama/Saban's defensive scheme is too complicated for college kids" narrative that some people liked to roll out has always been bullshite.

Once a competent DC starts calling games, what a surprise, the defense plays like it's supposed to. It was more evident last season than ever going from Golding with Steele having basically the same personnel and the D looking night and day different.

Actually, Steele had a (health related) breakdown last year and Saban had to step in and basically be the game planner on D (with T-Rob calling plays... who was in a bit over his head). CNS was a busy man last season. You could tell it was finally starting to wear on him.

We did hear these rumors last year and it does seem like this was the case. Saban’s statements regarding the struggles getting good coaches to come here was very revealing.
Things snowballed for him last year.

Since the staff solidified, I’ve said that this staff is better overall at the coordinator and below level but DeBoer isn’t Nick Saban. DeBoer seems pretty good though I don’t think anyone should underestimate the value Saban brings to the table. Only Saban could have gotten the 2023 team to the levels they achieved with that sorry coaching staff. Unfortunately it seems accomplishing that feat ultimately made him reevaluate whether he could keep doing this with an increasingly difficult hiring pitch due to his age.

IMO. toward the end, a lot of the good assistants kind of knew he wouldn't be around much longer and that made it harder to attract and retain good assistants/coordinators. Add to it the worst kept secret on the planet that Nick was a 24K hard a$$ to work for, it's no wonder we had some less than stellar assistants.

I believe winners come in all shapes, colors and sizes and some amazing assistant can occasionally come from obscure backgrounds, but when you're hiring a coordinator from UT San Antonio, the canary in the coal mine has died or is dying.

Not sure what you think is taking place at the tailgates prior to these games. People sharing grape juice and graham crackers? Having a few $10 beers won't make much of a difference for someone that's already lit walking into the game. Hell, the Tide Pride membership lets you keep your own liquor/beer/wine in a locker to access at your convenience. Not a huge deal.

People drink at tailgates? Get the frick outta here!

I've never, outside of my days as a student, ever dealt with a drunken idiot inside of BDS. Never. Strangely, the four times I've been to Atlanta (three SECCGs and a CFA Kickoff), I've seen multiple people (from both fanbases) who couldn't handle their alcohol get escorted out by police. One fat arse went viral for dropping people left and right, including a woman.

And I've also been to enough NFL games to know it's a mistake.

So if serving alcohol IN collegiate stadiums is no big deal, why is it you never see or hear of these same instances in BDS? I can tell you right now, I don't want to go Jordan-Hare if every redneck in orange and blue around me is seven beers in by the third quarter and Bama had the lead...

I think that the idea was to get a young, up-and-coming DC that showed skill and talent at a smaller school that wouldn't jump ship in a year or 2.
