Yes Ford the RB looked very nice. I mean Kaho looks to have the most upside to me of course. I’m not sure if Benton, Moody or Harris has it, athleticism yes but brains we shall see.
Ben was supposed to transfer now he looks to just be a guy on the team with almost no chance to play and he’s cool with that.

So my immediate observation is this.
Offense is elite
Defensive Line to include OLB are great to elite
Moses is great will see if he becomes elite at Mike
Secondary is going to be experienced/young at some spots but very talented so good to great
Will ILB is going to struggle it’s just a fact unless the incoming is one of those game freaks
Special teams is good, could be great if they get consistent. Better than last year IMO. What could have been worse honestly like 12 missed PAT.

Don't forget that Saban's pressers haven't missed a beat...his arse kicking of the media is still elite.

Can either of the punters actually kick the ball 50 yards from toe to receiver 7 times out of 10. That should be easy to chart if you're in your seat at the start of drills. I would say none of them can.

Delong was consistent I took some notes on his actual in game kicks because they were different than warmups. He was averaging around 45ish yards. Warmups he had some boomers. He is definitely better or he panics with the lights on.

OK....I am assigning you the task of charting these punters at scrimmage #2....real numbers. You will report back your ACTUALLY numbers and not what you recall. Aight
We're counting on you. Again toe to receiver and chart the practice before the scrimmage. We already know Delong will shite the bed when the lights come on. We need to know what is the best he can do when it doesn't natter.

10-4 will take care of it!
Our kickers freak out when the lights come on, it’s A Bama thing. When was the last big kick? Iron Bowl Tiffin?

I thought Shelly in the 2012 Nc game was huge. The reports at ILB are depressing. I am really concerned with PG as DC and LB coach. If reports are true that he was DC early in the season and Lupoi was relieved of DC duties then I don’t know why we would expect the confusion to be improved. If the MLB can’t get lined up right or are still getting lost the good teams are going to take advantage of it.

Last big kick?
1990, Doyle hits a long one vs UT as time expired. We win 9-6.
I believe we were 17 point underdogs & Corso had said this is a total mismatch, like high school vs college.
The 85 Tiffin kick was however probably the greatest 4th qtr ever. Both trading punches, both loaded at RB. Anyone to young to witness should watch on youtube.

Yep. That’s the best last 2 minutes of a football game I’ve ever seen. Didn’t hurt that the good guys came out on top but there’s literally multiple gutty, game saving plays made by Bama players all through that drive.

Saban did place Golding, a Former DB and DB Coach, at ILB Coach. Trying to push out another Kirby, forcing growth like when he moved Smart to ILBs.
Talent and depth is an issue, missing some "elite targets" puts pressure on everyone they do land to pan out.
It says something that arguably the 2nd best ILB on campus currently plays baseball...

Boz, did Chadarius Townsend get scrimmage reps at RB; if so, how did he perform?

I am ashamed to say that I had given up in 85 vs the Barn and left my seat in the upper deck and made my way all the way down to the bathroom when I heard that roar...…
Josey Wales was taking a pizz when that 52 yarder went true for a victory.....what can I say.

Josey, I've heard from biscuit Bennett that when Tiffin's foot connected with football it sounded like a shotgun with force coming from his foot to football.
Great job by Shula buying time finding Greg Richardson as he pulled Auburn defender to barely get out of bounds to set it up.

LINK ]Situational Work Helps Make Alabama Scrimmage Like Game - BamaOnLine By Kirk McNair Kirk takes the
quote:question from the presser and gives it a deeper look.
On simulating for scrimmages
Speaking generally, what are some things that you can simulate really well in scrimmages? And some things that are difficult to simulate relative to how it would look in a game?
quote:
A football scrimmage is not the same as a football game, at least to those who have seen both, who have noticed there is no scoreboard in a scrimmage and no historical record of a winner. But to Alabama Coach Nick Saban, who is process-oriented, the scoreboard is immaterial. It’s not about the scoreboard to Saban. It’s about performance. That may be the reason his team almost always comes out on the right side of the scoreboard.
There was a reason for Saban to discuss the subject Saturday afternoon after his Crimson Tide football team went to Bryant-Denny Stadium and completed its eighth practice of the spring with its first scrimmage.
There may have been a few thousand fans – boosters, sponsors, football lettermen – scattered among the 100,000-plus seats, but that certainly did not make it like a game. That made part of Saban’s point: “Other than the fans, the noise, football is football,” he said. And he enumerated:
“I think we try to create as many situations as we can in practice,” he said. “We practice good against good (first team offense vs. first team defense) a lot, so that’s a lot like playing in a game.
“We do a lot of situational-type things, a lot of two-minute things. We did third down, we did red (red zone, inside the 20) area, we did goal line, we did coming out, we did several two-minute situations at the end.
There are 11 guys out there on both sides and the field is 100 yards deep and 53 yards wide and there’re 11 guys out there in different formations and everybody’s got to adapt and adjust and do their jobs and do the right thing. React the right way, block the right guy, press the hole and read the run the right way.
“I don’t know what changes in the game? Do they put more players on the field? Do they make you play like on ice? Is it still grass? I mean it’s no different.
“It’s only different if you make it different.
“If you make the game different and you say, ‘I want to have a lot of anxiety. And I’m not going to be able to focus on looking at the right thing. I’m not going to be able to focus on doing what I’m supposed to do,’ just like any other practice, then I guess it’s different. “But otherwise, you’re supposed to be competing, playing hard, giving the best effort you can, focusing, trying to win, covering the guy you’re supposed to cover, beat the guy you’re supposed to beat if you’re running a pass route, blocking the guy if you’re trying to block him. So, I don’t know -- I guess if you’re outcome oriented, you would think the game is a lot different. But if you’re process oriented, you try to play that particular play.” He even gave a little golf tip by way of explanation: If you have to hit a shot, it’s your task to concentrate on hitting that shot, not worrying about what your score is going to be at the end of the day.
Although there are “goals and objectives” in a first scrimmage, Saban said it is more about seeing where the team is.
He seemed to see it half empty rather than half full.
“We have some really good players, we have some guys who can play winning football,” he said. But then he added, “To me, we don’t have enough.
“We don’t have enough depth. We don’t have enough guys that execute with confidence and playing fast.”
Saban has been in the game long enough to know where to go from there.
“Keep working these guys and practicing them,” he said.
And he repeated a Saban maxim of practice.
“You don't just do things until you get it right,” he said. “You do it over and over and over until you can't get it wrong.”
That being said, Saban also said, “I think offensively, for the first scrimmage, we executed pretty well.”
A first spring scrimmage is the first of, shall we say, game-like conditions, the exercise ending with the public A-Day Game on April 13. It is a long way from an August 31 game against Duke in Atlanta.
Saban and his staff will work with the players they have now for the next couple of weeks. And, the Tide coach said, it is going to be important that some of those who will be joining the team this summer are able to add depth, particularly on defense.

While awaiting Boz's insight, I have noted that several times Townsend has been mentioned as having a good spring; but will also mention that I did not spot him in the 1:00 highlights video nor was he mentioned in Charlie Potter's Nuggets from the practice yesterday. But, I am old as frick and could have missed him in the video (1 minute out of a couple hours doesn't mean all that)
Seems like last year in the spring game he performed extremely well and I believe hooked up with Mac for a couple TD's from his WR position; but here again, I will reference my limitations as outlined above.
When the Summer RB's get enrolled, wonder what that added depth will do to Townsend's position status? I would hate for him to wind up like others who move around so much they never get good enough to do anything other than add practice depth.

I don’t remember 2, but I remember one where he went crazy. Caught it across the middle, ran over 2 defenders and outran everyone to the endzone. It was super impressive.

I remembered a great performance, just not all the details. Reminded me of Derek Keif.. all Spring Game and during the season, seemed to fade and never really did anything to speak of.
