The first offensive line I saw, though, consisted of Alex Leatherwood at left tackle, Evan Neal at left guard, Chris Owens at center, Emil Ekiyor at right guard and Jedrick Wills at right tackle.
Jesus that is an enormous offensive line

Both of our likely starting guards are out today in Womack and Brown. Brown is technically out there but they won’t give him first team reps until his suspension is over. Good chance for Neal and E to assert themselves and make it hard for those veterans to get their jobs back.

That would be absolutely brutal on a defensive line.

The next quotes are from Charlie potter's twitter. Saban's post scrimmage press conference
quote:
Nick Saban on depth: "I think we have some really good players. We have some guys that can play winning football. To me, we don't have enough."
quote:
Saban: "I thought both quarterbacks played pretty well today."
quote:
Saban said Taulia Tagovailoa played some with the twos behind Mac Jones and Paul Tyson "played some, as well."
quote:
Saban on the D-line: "The first group played fairly well. The second group was not that great. I didn't watch the film yet. I'm sure we'll find some good things they did and a lot of things that need to be fixed and corrected."
quote:
Saban on inside 'backers: "We have a lot of work to do. Those guys have a lot of ability. We make too many mental errors."
quote:
Saban on special teams: "Kicking game was good. I think we're a lot further ahead in the kicking game this year."
quote:
Saban on Will Reichard: "We have a new freshman kicker, who kicked well today. He also punts, and he punted well today."
quote:
Alabama's first scrimmage of the spring lasted roughly 158 plays and was just over two hours. As always, no stats were distributed.

We have a long way to go, but the inside linebacker part is concerning. Golding needs to get them better or we need to move Golding to a different position group

ILB play has not been up to standard for two years now. Time to coach these boys up or find a new ILB coach.

You know why they are making mental errors. Just look at the practice videos. They dont ask questions. Then when he asks them a question they say yea and he says right lol. You can see that they are lost.

Good to hear about the kicker!

Yea, I think that's the most Saban has "bragged" on a kicker in a while

"As first scrimmages go in the spring, we obviously have goals and objectives and things that you want to accomplish," said Saban. "First time we have a scrimmage, you kind of see where you're at. I think we have some really good players, and we have some guys that can play winning football. To me, we don't have enough. We don't have enough depth on our team. We don't have enough guys that can execute with confidence and play fast. The way we need to go about that is just keep working these guys and keep practicing, and I think I've said this before, but what a lot of players don't understand is you don't do things until you just get it right. You do it over and over and over until you can't get it wrong. That's what our young guys have to understand."

“We have a work to do,” Saban said. “Those guys have ability. They make too many mental errors. I mean if you make mental errors at linebacker, you either have a guy that’s unprotected, you have somebody that’s not covered. We had way too many of those today. And we just have to keep on working and keep on working with them and see where it takes us. I thought some of the outside ‘backers played pretty well today.
“But inside guys, we’ve got lots of work to do.”
Alabama was already thin at middle linebacker before Mack Wilson opted for the NFL draft. The last two recruiting classes were light on middle linebackers with starter Dylan Moses back and a group competing including Ale Kaho, Joshua McMillon, Markail Benton and Jaylen Moody

Same issues we discussed several months ago. We have one true Mike LB - Shane Lee and he is just now old enough to be going to his Sr Prom.
S Lee (true Fresh) - 6'-0" 248 4* 4.7 40YD Mike LB
D Moses (Jr) - 6'-3" 235 5* 4.46 40YD Will LB (trying to play Mike)
J McMillon (Sr) - 6'-3" 237 4* 4.75 40YD (tweener) trying to play Will LB
M Benton (Jr) - 6'-2" 235 4* 4.7 40YD (tweener) trying to play Mike LB
J Moody (Soph) - 6'-2" 226 3* 4.6 40YD Will LB
A Kaho (Soph) - 6'-1" 224 4* 4.68 40YD Will LB
Other than S Lee, J McMillon is the closest thing we have to a Mike LB but he is a Sr that never got there and they have him at Will because D Moss is a better option at Mike LB.
That is a recruiting failure rather than a coaching failure.

LINK ]Nick Saban talks QB reps following first spring scrimmage
BamaOnLine By Charlie Potter

TUSCALOOSA, Ala.
-- Alabama held its first of three spring scrimmages Saturday afternoon at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The scrimmage contained roughly 158 plays and was just over two hours. While statistics were not distributed, Nick Saban seemed to be pleased with his offense after the eighth practice of the spring, especially the quarterback position, led by junior Tua Tagovailoa.
“I think offensively, for the first scrimmage, we executed pretty well today,” Saban said during a press conference. “Obviously, we have a little more experience. … I thought both quarterbacks played pretty well today. Obviously, we've got work to do, but that’s why we have practice the rest of spring and the summer and also fall camp to get ready to play the season.”
The two quarterbacks he spoke of after the scrimmage are Tagovailoa and redshirt sophomore Mac Jones, who is in the driver’s seat for the Crimson Tide’s backup quarterback role this fall.
Tagovailoa is coming off a record-setting season that has been well-documented here and everywhere else.
Jones was Alabama’s third-string quarterback in 2018 behind Tagovailoa and Jalen Hurts -- who is now at Oklahoma -- and was 5-of-13 for 123 yards and one touchdown.
The Tide signed two 4-star quarterbacks from the state of Alabama this offseason, too, that will push Jones for the No. 2 spot.
Paul Tyson joined the team during preparation for the College Football Playoff, while Taulia Tagovailoa was added to the fray earlier this year.
Saturday was their first time taking reps behind center in a game-like setting as members of the Crimson Tide.
It’s no longer unknown which player will take the first snap for Alabama when it faces Duke in Atlanta to open the 2019 season. But the order behind Tagovailoa has been one of the top questions this spring, and Saban was about the structure of the signal caller reps Saturday.
“Tua is obviously the starter,” Saban said. “Mac is the guy that has the most experience and got some playing time last year and has made a lot of progress. He’s the guy that can execute best right now as the next-best player.
Then we let Taulia play some with the twos. Paul played some, as well.
“So, we need to kind of see who’s going to be the next best guy and if anybody can challenge the first two guys. That’s kind of where we are today and that’s how we had it planned. I think those guys have a ways to go. First time out there, they did some good things, but it was also pretty obvious that it was their first time out there.”
Alabama will be back on the field Monday, April 1, for its ninth spring practice (3:30 p.m. CDT)
