That may only be a slight exaggeration. The juggernaut Tim Miller has built at Hazel Green is amazing. 4 straight state title, and the 5th straight looks like a formality at this point. Saturday they beat the #1 team in 7A, Hoover, by 27 points. That was the third (I think) nationally ranked team they've beaten this year. He also won 3 or 4 titles at Bob Jones at one at another school, Jess Lanier, maybe.

I know he was an assistant at Bama, but does anyone know if he has ever gotten a serious look as a head coach?

Does he recruit or something? I don’t understand how that’s possible at hazel green

And this isn’t a slight or anything, just curious. Hazel Green Al just doesn’t seem like a hot bed of talent to win 5 in a row

North Alabama has long been a hot bed of girls basketball talent.

What else is there to do in Hazel Green?

Hazel Green has had excellent girls athletic teams for quite a while. The volleyball program won consecutive titles not so long ago. I think there was a season where they won state in basketball, volleyball, and softball. Guess it's in the water.

As someone who has spent most of his life here, not much. LOL. For the girls, it's either play sports or have a baby in high school. Sometimes both.

You're not going to hurt my feelings.

The only non-Mexican, non fast-food, non-pizza place restaurant is in an old McDonald's and is a front for a drug operation...allegedly.

If Alabama makes a change in women’s basketball, they should look no further than Joni Taylor at Georgia. She played at Alabama. And was an assistant coach at Alabama from 2008-2010.

Nope, this lady right here needs a chance:

Beginning her 24th year as the Head Coach of the Shelton State Community College Lady Buccaneers, Madonna Thompson boasts an overall record of 630-138 (82%).

He's done an amazing job. The area is growing and the girls athletic program has been strong for some time. The boys sports are meh.
I *think* the boys baseball team won their first ever state title in 2018. Football is blah, boys basketball is average.

My alma mater.
Hazel Green ladies sports have always as far back as the late 60’s have been a force.
My senior year of ‘81 they were triple crown state champions. Volleyball, basketball, and softball. Glenda Wright built a monster from the 70’s until her HoF retirement.

Yes. I was connected to another smaller 4A powerhouse girl's basketball program, Deshler, for about 5 years and they recruited Deshler's best player via AAU basketball in 2017. She left Deshler and enrolled at HG but eventually came back before the season began because she was born and raised in Tuscumbia and didn't feel right about the decision to transfer and leave her teammates and friends hanging. So long story short, yes this program and all super successful big schools "recruit" to some degree.

Mine, too. You're several years older, but as small as Hazel Green used to be, we probably know each other.

the hazel green coach isn't the only coach in alabama to win 5 straight titles. carey ellison at pisgah high school just won his 5th straight and 8th overall. pisgah high, yes its a smaller school, but its also not in a hot bed of talent to pick and choose from.

great job carey ellison
