The 2024 team is not the definition of a middling team as they won the SEC and finished Top 5.

The issue is how teams are being compared. In my opinion, comparing them to previous years is apple to oranges. You can’t compare the two. Every year has its own sets of challenges.

I can take some of the GOAT teams in CFB and find some “middling” Bama national championship teams.

My post was about Saban having a top coaching year. We saw a ton of growth on this team more so than most. It was a fun year.

The result is middling, but taking into account all the turnover and where the program was in September the outcome was good.

12-2 with a first round loss is still middling.

Is it better than 2009? 2011? 2012? 2015? 2017? 2020? No, right?

Is is better than 2007, 2008, 2010, 2013, 2019, 2022? Absolutely, right?

So this year's result is in the mix with 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2021.

I think you can't put this year ahead of any national title years but you can put it ahead of any years that didn't result in at least an SEC title. So it's definitely behind 6 seasons and ahead of 6 seasons. So it ends up between 7th and 12th best seasons for Bama under Saban. That's what middling means. The standard for middling at Bama is a 12 or 13 win team that finishes in the top 5 nationally. No other program has that as the standard.

It's like saying a starting NFL QB stinks. Compared to all QBs in the world the worst NFL QB doesn't stink, but that's not the standard.

You’re missing my point. I understand you are comparing teams across Sabans tenure.

I disagree with that mindset. That’s all. I personally view a team’s achievements against other teams in the same year. In 2024, we overachieved and we weren’t middling.

Nothing else matters. We will never know how teams of the past would hold up to current teams but we know how this team would hold up against teams from this year though. (For the most part.)

Alabama has won at least 10 games every year since 2008. When Saban actually does retire, folks are going to have to put into mental health facilities. What he’s done with the constantly changing landscape is never going to be duplicated again.

A big part of it is that it’s how most everyone non-Bama fan and media member sees Bama too. A lot of them despise Bama but if Bama doesn’t win it the NC, they proclaim how Bama has fallen off and Saban’s past his prime.

Nah those ppl will just move on to another team to root for. Much like they did before Nick got here.

Sure this year can be considered a success when taking into consideration the improvement we saw over the season; however, the team collapsed in the playoff game, a game that could have easily been a W. If we had gotten handled by Mich like Wash did it would be different, but we didn’t. Milroe and the oline cost us a championship, that’s all there is to
It.

So I’m not going to revel in a moral victory moment or be happy that we improved and won an SEC title.

Enjoy your misery. Personally I enjoyed revenge on LSU and Tennessee, ripping the Barners hearts out, and crushing UGA's hopes and dreams. But thats just me.

Not allowing UGA to play for it all was incredible. I couldn’t stand listening to David Pollack and Elle Duncan run their mouths all off season again.

shite happens.

Missed field goals cost Alabama a championship in 2013.

Lane Kiffin cost Alabama a championship by not feeding Henry in 14.

Sark cost Alabama a championship by not running the ball more and letting a highly ineffective Hurts constantly throw the ball in 16.

Clemson stealing signs cost Alabama a championship in 2018.

Injuries cost Alabama a championship in 2019.

Injuries again cost Alabama a championship in 2021.

Goldiing cost Alabama a championship in 2022.

It happens, get over it.

If you can’t look at this season as a success you’ve got issues. Maybe you are only in your 20s and don’t remember when we where going to the Music City bowl and getting beat by Minnesota. We are on the tail end of a dynasty my friend, be happy with all of the winning, it’s not easy and 10-11 win seasons are not the norm for a lot of teams that don’t have Saban as their head coach.

I am very happy. I was addressing the ones on here saying that this year was a middling coaching job by our staff. Which is insane considering how the season started off.

I was at that game. The score made it seem close but in person it was just demoralizing. It felt like they ran toss plays all day and got chunks every time.

I wasn’t replying to you but really to Alfie’s post. There are 50+ football programs that could possibly be in the playoff and conference champs. All would love it if their team has had the success the last 16 years as Bama.

It’s definitely possible that I could have been drinking bourbon when I made that post.

Just butt hurt about the entire thing and needed to get it out and rant a little.
