his work across the board

Looking at the coaches he has been an assistant for (Gillispie, Pearl and Marshall), not sure how they wouldn't produce at the very least a good coach at any level of CBB. He was always my dream pick for a back up plan but he isn't going to hang around much longer. He even has ties to the state of Arkansas but we going to miss another chance at some solid coaches it looks like.

I feel like Brey is up and down. You’re going to have 3 or 4 good to great years then a WTF year with him. Lather, rinse, repeat.

If I’m Byrne, I wait for Matta then Sampson to tell me no. Then I call Forbes and ask him what’ll it take? I’ve always got Prohm in my back pocket if negotiations don’t work.

I'd honestly be ecstatic if they just hired him today. I wouldn't even be sad about not getting any of the "bigger" names.

I don't think there is anything wrong with that. I would be upset if my AD didn't at least try to make some of the bigger names say no but Forbes looks like a very solid hire. Especially for a school in the Southeast. Only real knock is four years of coaching to judge but they have been four good years and if you wait too long another big school will take a chance on him.

I heard that Thad Matta was in town Sunday night and left yesterday. Hope Greg Byrne told him everything.

Excited to announce we have agreed to a contract extension with @CoachProhm through 2025. Awesome to have a basketball coach that fits our department's culture of excellence while also having integrity, kindness and humility.

Prohm has signed an extension at ISU. Doesn't mean he's off the table I guess, but I would say he most likely stays there.

ETA: AHM21 you are a ninja like Byrne

Did his buyout change with the extension?

Re: Prohm’s buyout, yes it did. His contract is structured so that his buyout is whatever is remaining on his contract. So if they want to keep him and make it expensive for him to leave, all they have to do is add years to his deal.

That bumps his buyout to the 8 figure range.

ETA: that says AGREED, it doesn’t say signed. It’s not worth a shite until he signs, so Prohm is just giving himself a fallback too.

I’ve thought Trendon Watford has been impressive in yesterday & today’s practices. He has an excellent feel for the game & has shown he is one of the most skilled prospects at the @McDAAG.

I'm going to throw out what might be an unpopular opinion here:

If Steve Prohm were not an Alabama alumnus, he would not even be considered a candidate for this job.

I must admit I’m cheating. I’ve turned on notifications for Cecil and a handful of the beat reporters. Any time they tweet it shows up on my phone.

Following coaching searches has become so damn simple.

Is it weird I’m kind of relieved? I just feel like Prohm would have led to more of the same here.

If everyone else says no then Prohm is fine. Fifth or sixth option.

TOS said that on 102.9, they said Matta is out of the question?

Hope that is a rumor

I would be more surprised at us hiring Matta than I would be for Matta to politely decline.

I've certainly seen nothing official. Mark Titus, one of his former players at OSU, said he would be shocked if he comes back to the game this year. That's the only thing out there, though.

I think it is all rumor at this point. As I said previously, I trust Cecil and Suttles and that's about it. I think only Byrne and a select few truly know the plan, and I like it that way.

I dont mind him keeping the masses in the dark but I kinda wish he would let me know what was going on.
