Just a random thought because it’s Christmas Eve and I am bored at work. I wonder if colleges should try to hire NFL player analyst for draft to try to identify the best players your NiL budget can afford. Kind of like the Patriots used to do. They would find good affordable players they could mold into a great team but didn’t have to overextend financially for players.

I can do it.
Just like the NFL.

Pay your qb. Pay your d-linemen. Everyone else is replaceable.
4 BAMA receivers have transferred and already signed with new schools. All 4 make they teams with whom they signed better and didn't really hurt BAMA by leaving.

Now, you have to be open to sign generational talents. If you have a Julio Jones or Herschel Walker, Pay them. But if it's between Julio Jones and Joey Bosa, pay Bosa.

Edit: Nick Nash led the country in receiving yards, receptions, receiving TDs. Nick Nash?
Plays for San Jose St. Got one scholarship offer.
Receivers and Running backs are a dime a dozen. Same for linebackers and defensive backs.

Great WRs and RBs aren't a "dime a dozen" and if you have seen how times have changed they are becoming almost as important as the OT and QB.

Every NFL top QB needs great WRs.. not decent or "dime a dozen" ones. Every top NFL QB has to rely on a strong rushing game. Just look how RBs are making a comeback the past two seasons in terms of their importance.

Outside of the fact we had horrible OT play, we needed a gamebreaking RB but we haven't had one in a while.

People love to bash the QB but he had two WRs and if they dropped balls or were off, we only had Cuevas as a dependable target. The rest of those WR were average to trash.

QB needs his playmaker. We have struggled offensively because we don't want to accept we have talent at RB but they aren't Jacobs, Henry, Ingram, etc... they aren't even a Yeldon.

We have a super talent freshmen WR but he fell off a cliff that tenn game and never full recovered. Bernard was good but these guys aren't Jamo, Metchie, Juedy, Slim Reaper, etc..

I didn't say great wrs or rbs were a dime a dozen. In fact, I said the opposite. I said pay generational players. But there are way more humans walking the earth that are 6+ feet tall that can run and catch than there are 6'2+ humans that are 255-330 lbs that can play 60-80 snaps and disrupt the qb or stop the run.

It's simple supply & demand. You prioritize that which is in shorter supply. There are far fewer great defensive linemen than there are great receivers are running backs.

Agreed trenches come first, but he is right the importance of the WR position has never been higher. Especially in DeBoers offense I think it's the running backs that are now last on the totem pole (in DeBoers current offense).

I'm not saying receivers aren't important. I'm saying a guy nobody has ever heard of led the nation in all three receiving categories.
I'm saying there are more receivers capable of a thousand yard receiving season than there are guys capable of a double digit sack season. Arky had an 1100 yard receiver.

But I agree about rbs. There are 40 guys with 1000 yard rushing seasons.

Should have known better. Make the post and business picks up. These are interesting responses and I agree. Gonna have to identify hidden gems at certain positions and pay QB, OT, DL and CB

Pretty sure Courtney Morgan is already on it. With that said, I wouldn't mind see the data on nfl starters and where they originally ranked out of hs , etc.

This is a link to how a few NFL stars were ranked out of high school.

JJ Watt a 2 star
George Kittle a 3 star
Baker Mayfield 3 star and walk-on at Texas Tech and OU

If you have a great quarterback, all you need are a bunch of reliable possession receivers. Randy Moss was the only deep threat Tom Brady had on his entire run with the Patriots. Obsession with receivers is the second most obvious tell that someone doesn't know football. Most obvious tell is if someone says the offensive line doesn't do anything.
