Yeah, this could be prosecuted by the Feds. Not unusual to see them step in on gun thefts from stores and pawnshops.

What a country we live in that our own government refuses to protect us. The most basic function of government is to protect its citizens. We all know our government is capable of doing that, but it has chosen not to.

Our “law and order” president bloviates on Twitter from a bunker. Many in our ruling class tweets things like, “Well actually it’s a bunch of whites rioting.”

It doesn’t matter what party you vote for. It doesn’t matter how you feel about confederate monuments. It doesn’t matter what skin color you are.

The mob came, and our political class failed us. They failed their single most basic and important function- to protect the innocent.

At the end of the day, gov't can only do so much. This is one of the many reasons America loves guns a great deal. NYC seen its share of riots, including the most brutal of them all the draft riots during the civil war.

Seems many of the local police forces are more interested in intimidating and roughing up the peaceful protesters and members of the media than they are stopping the looters and property destroyers.

Did any Bham suburbs get hit last night? All quiet it seems out here in Shelby County.

This alone should end the gun control debate forever.

are you talking about the little group that was breaking the curfew edict?

No, I was talking about things I've seen in other areas.

Sunday I was watching an ABC news feed and the reporter was in Santa Monica. He was in a shopping center where every store was being looted. THe camera panned to the far end of the shopping center and there was a line of cops in riot gear with their backs to the looting and facing a group of protesters. The looters were pulling up on the other end of the shopping center, hitting as many stores as they could, then taking off, and the cops didn't seem to care.

And that's just one example.

I’ve always viewed a gun as a protection from random assaults. It is the government’s job to uphold and enforce laws. Guns are not for random people to enforce laws.

People shouldn’t be expected to do that.

Watching the action live in NYC last night. The cops would secure a couple of blocks, lock it down and the looters would just move a few blocks over. A cat and mouse game all night.

The police haven’t been authorized to use the force necessary to stop looters. Our politicians have taken the stance that they will have a display of force and hope that tensions just die down.

The NYC mayor and governor has a gameplan that basically invites thugs downtown for a good ole fashion store cleaning. An 11:00 PM curfew and a stubborn insistence on not allowing the national guard to help police the largest city in America. Cities that used overwhelming force or presence got back their streets. What aspect of government has actually let down their citizens?

Yeah, that was the first real concerted effort I have seen to curtail it. They were also positioning cops near the getaway cars. There were several vehicle pursuits in NYC last night.

Policing leaves a lot to desire, and that's another thing: We waste too much resources on crimes that shouldn't be crimes in the first place (War on drugs, prostitution, etc.). That's money that could been invested in smart policing. We could have decoy squads, etc. designed to outsmart the criminals.

Over the last day, I've had white friends reach out to me to finally get a deeper understanding of what bothers black people regarding race. Very refreshing conversation. There are a lot that black and white people simply don't understand about each other. We are more like boys and girls at a junior high dance...standing on the walls, waiting to see who hits the dance floor first. But the misconception is we hate each other therefore we avoid each other.

I encourage all of you to ignore the media noise and have meaningful conversations about each other's experiences.

Or we could just use an overwhelming presence that's readily available to one and all. A war-like condition isn't an intellectual exercise. Shock and awe, that'll work.

It worked overseas and that's why America is so popular in places like the middle east.

I'm watching a vid on Malcolm X right now. It's a shame he never connected to folks like Barry Goldwater, Murray Rothbard, etc. when he was alive. He came from the same philosophical tree as Booker T. Washington, who the civil rights elite deemed as a sell out...smh

The police have no legal obligation to protect your life, liberty, or property during the commission of a crime. That's a plain fact, as courts (including SCOTUS) have upheld time and time again. You are responsible for your own protection. Police may assist if they feel so compelled.

It should be a quick conversation, my friend. These crowds have at least a 50% mix of whites and often much more. This ain't Martin Luther King's freedom rallies. Turn on the black and white film and you'll see the token whites who felt the struggle to some degree. Today, these white folks in these crowds look as motivated and angry as any of the militant blacks. Integration through mixed marriages and relationships, a mutual feeling of economic despair, and a sense of strong class distinctions gives both groups a lot to reminisce over and share in common.

Make no mistake, these white people are highly motivated beyond helping the downtrodden minority.

You’re right there is no legal obligation. That law is designed so you can’t sue the government or police for not stopping a crime. It’s not so the government can just allow riots.
