Nearly a dozen protesters were arrested Monday night at Birmingham’s Linn Park for refusing to abide by the city’s new curfew.
Mayor Randall Woodfin on Monday morning implemented a 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew for the city. Additionally, he has closed the streets around Linn Park, which was the site of overnight protests that turned violent.
Shortly before 7 p.m. Birmingham Police Department’s SWAT Team arrived at the park on Park Place and 20th Street, giving warnings over a loudspeaker that protesters must evacuate. SWAT officers cleared the park during which time most of those in the park, including the homeless who routinely say there, left.

There are provocateurs from outside, but most of the looting and rioting is being done by poor inner city folks looking to take advantage of the situation.
Yep. There are certainly outside influences at these events. I walked through Linn Park this morning and it was pretty clear that a lot of the graffiti wasn't the language of the kind of hoodlum that was bashing the ABC reporter on the head. Just weird political gibberish about Europeans and Albinos.
The chaos gets going and the homegrown folk start the pillaging.

What ties, exactly, does the University have with him? I'm not aware of any.

That’s sad to see. For the life of me I will never understand why anyone with any authority last night in Bham allowed that roaming mob out of Linn Park. It easily could’ve been contained. The protestors had so much room that they were able to back a Z71 into the park in order to remove the memorial. Just imagine if all of that granite and steel had come down. People would’ve been hurt. The retail store that burned didn’t get set until hours later.
That is all 100% on Woodfin’s incompetence last night and this crazy theory/strategy that police must somehow give rioters space. It’s like watching a defense play prevent....

More people would have gotten hurt if the cops provoked the rioters. A few broken windows and mild property damage isn't worth people's safety.
No way was that monument coming down last night, and if it even looked possible the cops would have come in. They explicitly said so.
The reporters put themselves in a dangerous situation and were completely out of their element. When Quinn got his wallet stolen, they all should have walked away immediately instead of charging the group and then just standing there. Obviously they don't deserve what happened and the people who did it deserve to be found and arrested, but the reporters shouldn't expect the cops to escalate the situation just so they can film some people breaking glass for livestream views.
Woodfin made the right call. Last night could have easily been way worse.

I think that's a bit of an unfair characterization. Up until last night there really hadn't been any riots or property damage. He was giving protesters space, and things turned ugly on him. Perhaps he had the wrong strategy, but as bad as things got, they had it under control within a couple of hours. I stayed up watching streams until 1 this morning, and there really wasn't much going on then. I think a lot of people left when the gunshots rang out. That's not to downplay the chaos the ensued. It was UGLY, but I don't think he made the decision to let a mob out in the city to destroy property.

Don't conflate things. He's been spewing his "media is the enemy" line since he was campaigning. You think it's just a coincidence there are scores of reports of journalists being arrested and being hit with tear gas, pepper bags, and rubber bullets? Has he come out and condemned the actions of cops targeting peaceful protesters? Is it responsible to blame all of the looting and property destruction on Antifa?
Useful idiot

Some of these Govs and Mayors are complicit and some are so terrified of the optics that they render themselves useless at this point out of fear of losing their voting base if they go against the riots with force.
Sadly I think they are going to be worse off after they have run off a ton of tax paying residents and business owners.
They have painted themselves in the corner and these cities will eventually turn the way of Detroit

Manhattan has been a madhouse tonight with looting.
Brooklyn was peaceful and calm.
Some things I saw in Philly were awful. I'd expect nothing less in Philly.
Seattle is getting ugly right now.

A burglary involving at least a dozen people at a gun shop in Pleasant Grove sparked a chase on Interstate 59/20 Tuesday morning.
The burglary happened just after 3 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Gun Supply. At least a dozen people were seen on surveillance breaking in to the store and stealing an unknown number of guns, according to Lt. Danny Reid with the Pleasant Grove Police Department.
Pleasant Grove police pursued one vehicle connected to the burglary. Birmingham police and Jefferson County sheriff's deputies joined in on the pursuit of the vehicle. The chase finally ended on I-59/20 just before the Arkadelpia Rd. exit.
Reid said at least one person has been taken into custody. Police are searching for the other suspects involved in the burglary.
Pleasant Grove Gun Supply has been the target of criminal activity over the years. Reid said in the last seven years, the store has been hit about seven times. Most of the people involved in those burglaries have since been prosecuted.
