Mike Brey- he beat Marshall and makes peanuts compared to what we'd offer. (It's a long shot, but why not? He doesn't seem to be as motivated by sentimental reasons, but might be Duke's choice to succeed Coach K.)

Archie Miller- he has been one of my top choices from the beginning.

Jacques Vaughn- (out-of-the-box selection) NBA ties, recently let go by Magic, but was better college player than pro. What the hell!

If we go the NBA route, I'd like to see Avery Johnson or Mark Jackson get a call.

Once I saw Brey's salary, I thought the same thing. But he's been at Notre Dame for 15 years. He's like Few, not going anywhere.

He has turned down other jobs too. I think NC State and Maryland both made a push for him and stayed put.

I think we should all assume that any coach at a major school like Notre Dame, UVA, etc. will be able to get a great counter offer from their current school.

The only way we're going to land a bigtime coach now is they are truly unhappy at their spot and their school is cheap and/or not willing to provide the resources. Basically, a Bret Bilemia or Mike Riley situation. (Not that those are "bigtime" coaches.)

Mark Jackson is a strange dude. Avery Johnson would be fun. I like JV's pedigree though; Roy Williams player, coach under Pop before landing the Magic gig. He wasn't going to win there but he got more out of that line-up than I expected.

No news today. Nearly three weeks into this coaching search and we have no clue where it's headed.

You're probably right, but I'd still gauge his interest. There's gotta be a quality coach out there that is motivated by money.

Krystkowiak

White is a guy I hear good things about, but another one that I have never seen him coach a single game.

A below 70% win percentage at UAH does not sound like a coach that will succeed at Bama.

I thought about Utah's coach too. He'd be a great hire. Though being from Montana, he might be happy where he's at in that region.

My melt-free hire list (in no particular order):

Archie Miller
Ben Jacobson
Mike Brey
Chris Mack
Mark Few
Larry Krystkowiak
Shaka Smart (if Texas only offered 2.8, we can at least make them pay more at the last minute)
Tony Bennett

Most are unrealistic, though I'd like to hear about these guys getting raises. Battle is old, and needs to step on some toes. Otherwise, we'll be making Battle plan jokes for the next couple decades.

Just stfu, make some offers, and keep that shite out of the media. Though I'm thinking Marshall had something to do with those leaks.

A decent D2 coach?...

No. Anyone from the state of alabama(Prohm, Acuff, etc) should be ignored as a candidate.

I'm fine with this. The pursuit of Marshall was way too public in my opinion.

Forreal. Just let me and the rest of the world know when we've hired someone. Make sure they're good and I don't care to hear anything until it is a done deal.

That's what happens when you spend 2+ weeks going all in on Marshall.

Respect Battle for going for the glory, but now he has live with the fact that it burned him badly.

I'd go to Smart with a $1.5 million signing bonus check and tell him 1/2 for you, 1/2 for your VCU buyout. And whatever Texas is offering a year, add 200k to it. Offer good for 48 hours, let us know as soon as posssible.
