- He thinks Bama will likely be competing with Texas, not Wichita State for Greg Marshall

Why is this such a strong belief?

The rumor is that Texas is tired of Rick Barnes meeting the bare minimum. His buyout is only around $1.5 million so if Texas feels like they can land someone like Marshall, I imagine they would make a move pretty quickly.

At the same time, why do you fire a coach like Barnes who is getting you to the NCAAT every year. It would be like UGA firing Richt.

While i kind of agree with your analogy, it should be noted that Barnes is performing significantly lower than Richt. Or maybe he's not and that's just my personal belief.

I also think Texas basketball is a more prestigious job than Georgia football, but that could also be a misconception of mine.

Gregg Marshall to Texas makes so much sense that it seems like a no brainer to me. I'm still holding out hope that we can hire him though.

I'm kinda glad we missed out on Howland. His UCLA teams were so boring to watch.

Maybe so, but they won a lot...kinda like Wimp Sanderson's teams. I remember our '90 Sweet Sixteen matchup with Loyola Marymount...the LMU coach said they'd force Bama to run up-tempo while Wimp said Bama wouldn't fall for it and would slow down the pace. Bama lost in a close game (62-60), but held LMU to 60 points below their season average. Sometimes Wimp's team weren't entertaining, but they won a lot and they were always competitive...

Alabama will throw a lot at him. I'm sure people close to him have at least spoken to Bama.

posted this on tRant, but will bring here as well. Some of you may (or may not) know that a good friend of mine is a sports agent with clients primarily being college football coaches (and mostly assistants).

He said the rumor he's heard is the initial offer to Marshall will be or $25M over six years, guaranteed unless probation, with the potential to be $30M over six years when you factor in bonuses.

Perfect statement to leverage a raise out of WSU.

They scored 149 points against Michigan in the round before they beat Bama 62-60.

Sell him on the idea of 50-100 years from now being known as The Godfather of Alabama basketball.

He could change the culture of Alabama being a football only school, into Alabama being a major program in both sports. He could be the guy to get the ball rolling in the right direction.
