Mississippi State has fired Ray today. I doubt they are a player for Marshall or Smart but if we get past those two, I could see us both competing for Michael White, Miller, Jacobson and Prohm. It's not a premier job, but compared to what else is open at the moment, it's not that big of a step down from Bama.

My thoughts exactly, especially whth a reasonable chance Marshall turns us down regardless of offer.

Mal got Saban. Let's see what Bill will do

Mal had time. If Wichita State beats Kansas, do we wait on Marshall? Tonight is big.

Looks like all the eggs are in one basket...I hope it works out ... MSU is making their push for Howland

Smart would not be a wise hire IMO. He has somewhat fizzled since the final four run and hiring another up and comer from the last school we just hired an up and comer from would not be a wise decision.

Agreed on Smart, he seems to have fizzled somewhat. If we don't land Marshall, we better get Archie Miller or Ben Jacobson. Those two appear to be the best two left after Marshall. I like Smart's style of play but it hasn't been as successful the last couple of years. We'd better get this right if it's true that State is going after Howland. The SEC west in basketball is about to be like it is in football: a meat grinder.

The SEC could seriously become a top basketball conference in the next few weeks. Between Donovan, Calipari, Howland, Anderson, Jones, Pearl, and possible Marshall/Smart? That's pretty legit coaching IMO

I completely disagree but everyone has their own opinion

Brown, Marshall, Brad Stevens.

You are correct. You doubt that UA will hire a quality coach and you have nothing to do with the search.
And the last two words you used in your answering post were uncalled for. Shows poor upbringing.

Now I read a tweet that says if the coaching search lasts another week, look for Mark Turgeon to become involved. WTF? Are we drawing names out of a hat now?

That tweet you saw is from a person who has no inside information. If it's not from 247 or tidesports, don't believe it.

Never said I doubted they would hire a quality coach either. Just said I didn't think either of those two would be interested in Bama and you started with the smart comments. Shows poor upbringing . Lol. I hope we hire the best coach who wants to be here and if it is one of those two mentioned then great. Would live to have either.

@GoodmanESPN: Ben Howland has emerged as the frontrunner and is in discussions to take the Mississippi State job, sources told ESPN.
