I'm starting to wonder when the first school will decide to sign ZERO HS kids and just allocate 100% of their resources to signing guys out of the portal.

Welcome to the college football farm league. 6-7 teams spend whatever NIL funds are required. The rest of teams sign the high school talent, develop the talent, then get it bought out from under their noses. Alabama is and will continue to be subject to this.

Seems like the only way to navigate this with limited funding is to do what Deboer is doing. Sign high school recruits, pour the available money into retaining the top talent at all costs, and supplement in the portal with deals (ideally, with more emphasis on both lines).

It's not like they don't have the money and I have a sense Lanning is in desperation mode similar to what Ryan Day was in 2024.

Often thrown out, never self assessed.

How about an elementary stat. How many teams have come seeking his services? You cite Saban who himself admitted that getting coaches in his last years was tough. It’s not the boon you think it is.

I suspect this will happen within a year, two at the most. I’m aware of the discussion happening on LSU’s staff.

He was hired at the end of 2019….hardly the “end of the Saban era” and when he was having difficulty hiring assistants.

The most prominent/accurate way position coaches are assessed is by the production and development of the players they coached.

If you will entertain that assertion, then how would you rate the job he has done developing the players under his tutelage?

Will you concede that his development of lower rated recruits along with guys who were considered “busts” until they played for him is somewhat impressive?

(Phidarian Mathis, Justin Egboigbe,Christian Barmore and Dashawn Hand as a few examples)

Can we create and pin a thread so people can continue talking about how bad we are recruiting the portal, how we are broke, and how Alabama is a farm team. Though as some point out not sure how we would be a farm team if we cannot develop them as some think.

Either way let’s focus on players in portal and those that UA is potentially in it for in this thread. The negative posters take it out of this thread please along with the armchair expert coaches

You are incorrect. Yes the NC. Discipline won that more than anything. Alabama was the only team committed to that season. The downgrade in coaching and recruiting was already rolling.

And you provided one stat. One. And if his assessment was anything out of the ordinary he would be in demand. Right?

No. I do not concede. Adequate at best. Nothing special. Keep rolling along to the sound of your own voice. You definitely enjoy it.

I took his bait for a bit. I’m bored with him. I will stick to the topic.

I'd love to see Duke try to file a claim of tortious interference here.
