This can’t be a surprise. Smith and Russaw are close friends. Sucks. Hate to say it but DeBoer may end up like Kelly and Freeze at this rate. Hard to win without good players.

Not that Smith isnt a good player, but look at what indiana did to us with much smaller DL.
Football is changing. Defenses have found ways to counter big bully OL.
Coaching is more important than Jimmy's and Joe's now. The top 3 talented teams got eliminated from playoffs already.
We will probably lure a good DL in anyways now.

Bama had 4 players on the All-SEC Team (1st,2nd, and 3rd). A total of 4 only. AU had as many as Bama.
Maybe throwing around best in the SEC isn't accurate.

Pierre had more tackles, tfls, and sacks this season than Smith and Qua have in their whole career here combined.

IU's DTs are generally the same size as Smith (within about 10lbs).

Pierre and Smith play different positions, so not an apt comparison.
But yes, Pierre outperformed Qua, which is why we wanted Qua to move to ILB.

Highly unlikely at this point since they’re very tight. Hope that they don’t end up at Auburn since both grew up in Montgomery.

Im not kidding.
They are both guys who flashed occasionally but were often non-factors.
The bigger problem is replacing them, because DL is probably the most expensive position after QB. We're probably going to end up with a bunch of G-5 guys or P-4 backups.

Smith is nowhere near as productive.
Honestly our entire interior DL has been terrible in production this season. We need new coaching

This I definitely agree with. The defensive line has been underwhelming for a while now. We don’t have the difference makers like some of the other big programs have.

2025:
Keenan: 16 combined tackles, 3 TFL
Smith: 28 combined tackles, 6.5 TFL
Nowhere near as productive, huh? Good lord.

I think thats fine if they come in hungry. The biggest problem with all these highly touted guys is they come in and are already paid before they do anything.

Smith is a good player but I think you could find replacement production on our roster or portal.
