Even Alabama, which I thought was in "the black" is apparently broke. Of course, I have to wonder if there's some mismanagement going on here but that's another story.
Operating in the red does not mean the program is broke. Some of the major cost the university has are capital costs that have long term payment options that eventually will put us back in the black but right now that debt can work as a tax benefit. So, without seeing all the numbers not concerned about that.
But in regard to the other none of that would be possible without the players. You want the top players to keep the program on top which brings in investors and the new stuff. I also never said the school was profiting millions, but the revenue streams are there, and we do have coaches making between 7 to 8 figures annually. Without the players none of that revenue would be there nor the TV deals. So hard for a player to sit there and say well you can find a way to pay an asst coach 7 figures but yet I am living in a dorm given a meal plan.

Another way to look at it: schools wouldn't be doing this [FBS football] unless the expense was worth it. FBS level football is a huge recruitment vehicle for general student admissions. Schools can subsidize cost overruns out of funds they use for high school admissions outreach/recruitment. The ADs know what that limit is with their administration and elected officials.

A third of all college football players are in the portal right now. That means we should expect ~28 scholarship players to enter the portal.

I expected us to lose roughly 25-30 players. This is about on par with college football.

16 tackles and 3 sacks in 3 years .. another of those “most talented roster in SEC” players . Was getting better . Good luck to him
