You’re exactly right. I support Bama, and if the more athletic kids chose to not play, then the playing field would be even all across the boards anyway. Might not get from Point A to Point B as fast, but I ain’t in a hurry on Saturday’s anyway

Slap a Bama jersey on little league kids and put the SEC championship on the line, and I’ll cuss and yell just like I’m watching the big boys It’s not about the players, it’s about the team and the competition.

Pretty good article I pulled from the Poli Board thread on this.

Basically says its time to tell players here is what the offer is: it is a take it or leave it proposition and is not going to subject to further negotiation.

Excellent article. It's spot on, imo. Thanks for posting it here. I don't ever go to that board.

Then college football as we have known is likely unsustainable. It would seem to me that we are going to impact non-revenue sports and have Title IX issues as well assuming we split revenues with in college football.

What other sport functions in this manner? MLB, NBA, NHL, professional soccer all have developmental leagues and/or little to no restrictions on a 17-18 year old joining. There is nothing else similar in American football. The NFL isn't interested in starting a minor league and has no incentive to change the system.

I did not say I agree or was advocating for it but times are changing and entitlement among these players is growing.

I agree with you. They don’t have to play and plenty of other kids would want to take their spots.

In theory yes but to many fans of programs like ours will not accept that line of thinking and will concede if needed to keep the program at the top. We are kidding ourselves if we think otherwise.

They guys that are really talented and have big time potential will want to develop their skills and showcase their talent and that is where Bama and Saban come in. Players want

If that was the case we would get everyone we wanted and only offer the number of scholarships we have for open spots going into the next season.

The PAC 12 has players getting drafted as well. And if they can create a new culture for these players, especially with the growing culture of entitlement, that can also create the same end goals the PAC 12 will have an advantage.

The Rock and his ex-wife just purchased the rights to the XFL. One idea being floated is to work with the NFL to create a minor league system with 2-3 year contracts required for the players coming out of high school. At that point they could resign, move on to the NFL or get sent packing.

Since it is a business, they could get cut early after the first camp (or whenever they are not deemed a good investment) and be sent packing with a severance payment. Their NIL value would not be close to what some might be in college but I say let them learn to feed themselves in the dog-eat-dog world. It would provide additional population to man the prison farms and do road maintenance I guess.

The Bama’s , UGA, Ohio State, Clemson , LSU etc are still going to get the best of whatever talent is out there

Again we offer the best every year and only get a fraction of those top athletes. But yes under Saban we have a better chance to maintain that level but we have had our years where that was not the case.

Some of those other programs you mentioned like Clemson and LSU are new money entering the game. It just takes a program like USC to get back to where they were over a decade ago and the PAC 10 if adopts the new social dynamic could be a player once again.

Oh I agree , it’s all cyclical , but my point was if a few 5 stars don’t want to play under these “oppressed” conditions , there are plenty of 2,3,and 4 stars who will so the talent on the field will still be basically equal except for schools with the best coaches , facilities , recruiting base etc so the product on the field will be good without giving into entitled players demands just because they want something

2 stars vs 2 stars would still be a good game, and I’m more than fine with it.

And also think, how many of our 2-3 star guys turned out to be pretty damn good, Darius comes to mind.

We currently have one of the best coaching staffs and program for this as well. We develop IMO 2-4 stars better then any program in the country.

I know we have some that get upset when we miss on a 5 star but I believe Saban and Co are ahead this entitlement culture and why some we either do not push hard for or back away from. Saban for the most part has done a great job profiling these recruits.
