This could be significant if it spreads.
Moving towards a Players union and Pay for Play using Covid as leverage.

Easy fix. Cancel their scholarships, make them pay for college. If they don't play, then they lose potential millions by not being ready for the NFL.

Only problem with that is who’s in control of the university’s in the P12.

Far left liberals more then likely in control and they will bend the knee. Plus the governor’s and other politicians in that region more than likely will jump at the chance to cause chaos.

But I agree... Shouldn’t cave to this kind of threats.

It’s unverified, but there are reports that Washington State players that retweet that united stuff, are being told to clean out their lockers.

Their demands are a mix of good and bad ideas, leaning toward mostly bad. The money and racial stuff is dumb, but the COVID protections are practical - if a player wants to sit out, they should be able to without losing a year or eligibility. This would probably require the NCAA to allow a temporary roster allowance, but shouldn't be too big of a deal.

I like the idea that if a player goes undrafted he can come back to college as long as he does so within 7 days. Also I don't hate the idea that medical costs for injuries suffered while playing should be covered for up to 6 years after they graduate.

Ramogi Huma is the guy behind all of this, though, and I don't trust him. They're trying to make it look like an organic, grassroots thing, but I'll bet my paycheck he saw this as an opportunity to get his agenda going.

Wow, that's asinine. If you leave a job do they pay for your insurance and medical bills for 6 years? You think they should be covered until they're 28? Good Lord get off the teat. Most people are married with kids and a mortgage by the time they're 28.

If you're injured on a job, file a worker's comp claim, but then lose or leave the job, you still retain your rights to your claim.

Should Tyrone Prothro have been forced to pay his own medical bills for complications with his leg?

Let them walk. There are plenty of players that would happily take their spots for a free 100k education, free room and board and access to the best trainers and a platform to audition for the NFL. They already get stipends. If all that’s not good enough, go make it on your own. Take the power away from the teenagers here, they don’t need to be driving the bus. They have it better than any generation of college players that have come before them.

This pleases me. They were given a scholarship to play football. If they refuse to play football then they should lose their scholarship.

Hopefully that's true.

Yes as mentioned any job related injury with a filed workers comp claim will pay until fixed or can pay forever if it becomes a permanent disability or up to age 65 in some states.

Right here is where we all as college football fans should be most thankful that the SEC has gone to only conference schedules. Pac 12 can drop off the face of the map completely and it affects no other power 5 team and the season. Play on.

The PAC12 hasn't been playing football for years anyway. They've been playing some form of grab-arse similar to football, but it's a hollow likeness. They are irrelevant on the national stage, and are fomenting these socialist ideas that everybody gets to be a billionaire and nobody pays the bills. Let them fade into G5 obscurity if even that. frick 'em. They had some legitimate concerns and ideas but they buried them in leftist wealth redistribution bullshite.

Pretty good article I pulled from the Poli Board thread on this.

Basically says its time to tell players here is what the offer is: it is a take it or leave it proposition and is not going to subject to further negotiation.

I agree with what everyone is saying here but our current culture and what is taking place right now front and center due to the virus having everything take a back seat many of these soon to be college athletes are a generation that will support what is going on in the PAC 12.

There is a growing culture where these kids feel they are being exploited and hence the push for pay to play. It will happen sooner then later and the PAC 12 could seize this opportunity to be the leader going forward which will give them a huge recruiting pull.

Do not kid yourself about who is driving the market. How many adults are paying subscriptions to see where a teenager may or may not end up in college? How many adults are following these kids on twitter, facebook, and every other social media platform? This is a billion dollar industry that would not exist without them and they are figuring it out. They are no longer student athletes, anyone still using that term is way behind the times, they are amateur athletes now seeing their value to others and want a piece of the pie. We have already seen this with so many sitting out post season bowl games.

Again they are driving the train here and the PAC 12 and how they respond could change the future of the CFB landscape.

I apologize I read it wrong. I thought you were saying they should just be carried on the insurance for 6 years after graduation like kids with Obamacare. I agree with your stance that they should be taken care of if injured.
