Honestly, that's what happens when your sole qualifications for office are that you're highly unlikely to either frick things up or get caught screwing the help.

After Bentley, I understand why voters viewed those two assets as very big positives but they aren't much help when something like this happens. I'd much rather Battle had gotten the nomination.

Not really. Most large employer retail never closed. It's good that the small guys get to reopen but they don't employ that many people in comparison to those that didn't get to reopen.

Waitress/waiters make a lot of their money off tips. Those don't come back until you get in-person dining. Barbers and hairdressers don't get anything despite the fact that simply wearing the same face shield a nurse wears would give great protection.

Her order today returns jobs to MAYBE 20% of those currently unemployed.

Today's order is pathetic. She essentially did nothing. What an embarrassment.

So she didn't follow the Lt Governor's recommendation on much, if anything.

Everything else aside, that is pretty funny to me. The pissing match between those two is amusing to watch. Ainsworth flailing all over the place trying to get attention for his 2022 run for Governor while Ivey tries to prove she still has basic cognitive abilities.

I don't want to vote for her in her next general election, but a Dem would be worse so I'm hoping she gets primaried.

If this is a pissing match, he's winning. His recommendations were reasonable. She should have followed them. Ignoring his recommendations was the worst move to make.

He’s not winning considering he and his “task force” have had zero influence on her decision making.

That makes no sense. He can easily point to how she ignored his recommendations and that led to further unemployment and pain for Alabamans. If his goal is to primary her, she gave him all the ammunition he needs by ignoring his recommendations.

What Fairhope is talking about is that not two weeks before he released those recommendations he put out a statement that effectively said "Lock EVERYTHING down or we're all going to die."

In both cases he only said what he thought the tea leaves said people wanted him to say. I had hopes for him but it turns out he's not a person of character at all.

I hope Kay gets primaried if she tries to run. I will not vote for her again. If she does run and gets the nomination I'll do just like I did with Bentley and simply not vote the Governor's race.

In NC it can get crazy as the Governor and LT Governor can be from separate parties. So always seems to be fighting between the two here.

He can't as easily point out she's doing exactly what he told her to do before he didn't tell her to do it. Kinda like "I voted against the war before I voted for it."

The commercials using his actions against him will be hilarious. Imagine a backdrop of flip-flips walking and making that slapping sound while his rapid position changes scroll across the screen. They'll be devastating.

That can (and has) happen here. It hasn't happened since the late 1990s (Don Siegleman (D) gov, Steve Windom (R) Lt. Gov) because Alabama is first very conservative and second doesn't have a functional democratic party.

Based on what? I knew nothing about him before he ran for Lt Governor, and every ad I saw from him was just him touting his religion. I still don't really know much about him.

To follow up with the Ainsworth/reopen angle. It's going to be interesting what happens when the legislature returns. The first day is supposed to be May 8th and it could be fun.

I've got no idea what the mood of the majority is, but if it is in the 'reopen' camp they could easily have a bill stripping her of the decision making authority passed by lunch. In Alabama, it only takes a simple majority to override the governor's veto. It would be ironic if Kay ended up being Governor Irrelevant just like her predecessor.

That can happen in Alabama too.

See the above. When he thought people were afraid he was screaming lock it down. When he thought people didn't like it he started screaming open it up.

That change happened in about 2 weeks' time.

That isn't a display of character. It is shameless pandering. If he does it on this, he'll do it on everything.

Would you rather he still be screaming to keep it all shut down? I'm not sure this is the negative you believe it to be.

Being able to change your views and admit you're wrong is a good thing. It's not like opening up the state is a sure fire political win right now.

He hasn't done that. He's simply acted like the first position never happened.

Elect him if you want. I bet you won't like what you get.

Birmingham has passed an ordinance requiring that you wear a mask if out of your your vehicle in public.

quote:

Masks or face coverings are required in all public places in Birmingham effective May 1. The Birmingham City Council on Tuesday morning unanimously approved the ordinance requiring face coverings for all 2 and older.

I was asking what about him gave you high hopes.
