Oh and this is interesting from a purely logistical viewpoint:

@RTD_MikeBarber: Virginia Tech announces sophomore tailback J.C. Coleman sprained both ankles during tonight's football practice. #Hokies

VT just can't catch a break. I really feel bad for them.

And I've been hoping they'll have a good season after the opener to help our SoS but that's looking less and less likely

You honestly think Saban only coaches 2 more years?

There's some reason Kirby hasn't left yet, I think that is a real possibility

How much longer do you see him coaching ?

I think he was suspended anyway for the Alabama game.

The reason Kirby hasn't left is that he makes more than 40% of college football head coaches as a DC.

I say 5 more for Saban. Maybe up to 7.

Is it safe to assume Arie is playing RT because of better pass protection abilities? Anyone know how he's doing, and does he maybe take over at LT next year?

He isn't even 40 yet, he has incredible job security, and we are paying him so much that he has priced himself out of anything less than the HC job at a major AQ conference program.

Unlike the vast majority of assistant coaches in the country, Kirby has the luxury of making a short list of jobs he wants and waiting on one of them to make him an offer.

I think he ends up coaching longer than most think (he just doesn't strike me as the retirement or ESPN commentator type).

@Marq_Burnett: C Ryan Kelly, RG Anthony Steen, RT Arie Kouandjio, LG Austin Shepherd & LT Cyrus Kouandjio worked as 1st team OL. Practice report coming.

I think this line will work better. I was worried about Shep on he edge, but if Arie is back to old form then this may be our best lineup.

Saban stressed having power on the right side when referring to Arie's move there.

Barry Switzer and Tom Osborne didn't rush out to become HCs, and their patience was rewarded for that.

No one knows if Smart will end up like those 2, among others who took the same path, but there's no denying he'll be one of the top guys in the running for it barring odd circumstances. Switzer and Osborne were trusted assistants of the former HC, as is Smart.

More push huh? Hopefully the line works out. It's the only thing that really bothers me.

Seems to be what they are looking for.

He also said something about Shepherd offering versatility at LG and LT. Strange to say of someone you just moved from RT. Kinda reminds me of Mike Johnson in that instance, not a mauler but good on his feet. Decent RT, better Guard.

Both have to hold up, shoulder and knee injuries aren't good on OLs...

Steen, in some ways, reminds me of Mike.

And I know it doesn't go here, but I just saw where Trent will be playing a little bit tomorrow night.

The emergence begins.
