have 4 RBs on scholarship. 2 are sophomores and 2 are true freshmen. I don't think you take unnecessary risk with them on special teams. It's pretty simple.
If the player gets hurt you'd call the coach an idiot for taking an unnecessary risk. But if the player returns a kick for a TD that wins the game it's considered good strategy.
At the end of the day it's football. Playing your best guys is a risk because injury lurks at every corner. That's the nature of the game.
You don't like it? Damn dude watch the WNBA or something I don't know what to tell you

I guess so. I didn't quote anything that was behind a paywall

I don't like it. Like I said, would you'll you like playing all 4 RBs on special teams? Maybe you should play a sport before you comment

I forgot to mention that the hit of the day was Ryan Anderson popping a WO RB. Who can name the player that he infamously popped at fan day 5 years ago?
Wasn't Anderson the one who injured Chris Black in 12 and forced him to redshirt?

Emmons went into camp believing if he works hard enough and does what the coaches tell him to he has a chance to play as a true freshman.
He had great hands as well to catch like Drake did. Remember this kid played RB, WR, punt & kickoff returner as well as a DB for his HS team. Scored from each of those positions in HS.

I like winning. If it takes all 4 RBs to win the game then that's what you do. by the way thanks for making wildly ridiculous assumptions because I don't like your strategy that we should coddle the players since playing RBs on special teams makes you wet your pants
Quit trying to pussify the sport dude

Kiffin talks QB's
quote:
“I think when Blake first got here, he was performing extremely well,” Kiffin said. “And really, there were time we were thinking he was really in the battle last year to be the guy. And like normal, when you’re a freshman, he kind of went up and down through some practices and scrimmages. And then he, really, I think you could tell he did not have his best spring.
“He really had a great offseason. He had some health issues where he had lost some weight, (but he’s) gained weight back, he’s bigger, stronger than he’s been and through a couple days, he looks really good. He looks really strong, very quick feet and continuing to grow in the offense. We’re very excited about where he’s at.”
quote:
“I think if you come in as a midyear (enrollee) and you perform well at all, you’re gonna be pretty good because most of the guys will struggle a lot,” Kiffin said. “Very, very special skillset. A very strong kid, one of our top lifters in strength, forties, vertical. And so he’s just continuing to learn a completely new system from what he was in high school.
“And that transition for all the players, especially quarterbacks, is difficult. But he’s handled it really well, and we’re really excited about what he’s done and some of the plays that he makes that are really not in-rhythm plays because of his ability to make big plays.”
quote:
“I would hope that somebody can do it in practice, especially when we have two scrimmages in the fall,” Saban said. “And I think that’s an important piece of this. We do all the statistical analysis every day of each quarterback, you know, how many passes they completed, what’s their completion percentage, how many interceptions did they throw. We grade them on how they executed and did their job, trying to see, OK, who is playing with the most consistency here?
“But then you get out there in a scrimmage in a real live situation where a coach isn’t standing right behind you and you have to go out there and compete and play on your own and be the leader and then kind of take the bull by the horns. And then you have to evaluate whether this guy is ready to take that step. Then you hope that he’s ready to take that step, that he can do it in that circumstance, that he can take that step in the game when the live bullets are flying and you’re playing in a big arena, which our first game certainly will be. So I’m hopeful that this happens in practice and we don’t have to go into games trying to figure it out.
“Two years ago with Blake Sims we went into the game with him pretty much being the guy. Last year we kind of alternated guys a little bit early in the season and somebody sort of won the job, won the team, and I’m hopeful that can happen sooner than later.”

He used to have this signature hit when he was in HS where receivers would almost always have to leave the field. That Daphne team was sick.

When are the scrimmages? I am going to be glued to Twitter when they are happening.

Those updates yesterday were pretty exciting. I hit refresh about 30x. I should have walked away for 2 hours come back and been more productive, but i needed that information right then and now!

I would be ok with all 4 playing ST. I would want whoever is going in at RB next to be on the bench so he's a little bit fresher, but I would have no problem with them all playing ST if they are the best players for it.

Barnett was ok but seemed less decisive/consistent than Bateman and Hurts to my eyes.
Damnit. I was really excited about Barnett yesterday. The updates were saying he seemed like the best out there and Bateman couldn't hit shite.

"Jalencat" as I have dubbed him like Blake made a nice scramble, he broke it free and they blew the whistle. This should get fun.

IMO, which should be completely ignored, Hurts is the best of em.

I'm partial to Jalen "Everybody" Hurts.
