He hired Dan because he was available even though he had a OC. It is my view that Dan would have been the OC at Bama in the years going forward.
Perhaps, but I can't really get on board with the notion that Saban hired Enos principally as a future OC unless the stuff with Durkin at Maryland happened prior, and I don't think it did.
I believe that Locksley was the OC, and had the Maryland job not opened up, Locksley would be our OC in 2019 as well, as I think he did a very good job. I also think it's illogical to assume that Enos would have waited longer than that.
I think Enos was hired because we needed a QB coach and Enos was wasting his time at Michigan.
We also need to stop rewriting history. Prior to Enos being at Bama, he was previously coaching at Arkansas during their decline. Let's not act like Enos is God's gift to offensive football. He did a bang up job as Bama's QB coach. I have no evidence that he's an awesome OC. Bama fans just assume he's a great OC because he was seemingly a great QB coach.
Enos might fall flat on his face at Miami. We don't know.

Enos will have his work cut out for him at Miami because their QB position is a big question mark.

Did Enos have any responsibilities as Associate HC, or is that just a title?

Did Sark coach QBs at ATL or no?

I don't know about that because I rarely watch the NFL anymore, but Sarkisian was the qb coach for those awesome Pete Carroll USC teams. In fact, according to his wikipedia site, he was the qb coach every year up to his head coaching job at Washington.
El Camino College (2000)
Quarterbacks coach
USC (2001–2003)
Quarterbacks coach
Oakland Raiders (2004)
Quarterbacks coach
USC (2005–2006)

NFL teams have a dedicated QB coach as a standard practice. The last time Sark had QB coaching responsibilities was 2008.

Of course it's better to have a dedicated QB coach, assuming he's good.
Couple of things tho:
NFL staffs aren't as limited in on-field staffing. In addition to a dedicated QB coach, it's common for NFL position coaches to have extra on-field assistants (understudies) helping them.
Maybe Sark didn't destroy all of his QB coaching brain cells. Maybe he can still ride a bike too.
The good news: We can have a dedicated QB coach and still meet other on-field staff needs, especially if CNS continues to help coach DBs.

2016 analyst at Alabama
last 2 years OC Atlanta Falcons
So a qb coach every year except 7 years as head coach and the last 3 years.
2 Heisman trophy winners at USC, though Leinart won his Heisman the one year Sarkisian was qb coach of the Oakland Raiders. Sark did coach Leninart the year before and the year after. All this is according to wikipedia.
Bottom line is that I think Sarkisian will be a capable quarterback coach and perhaps even a very good qb coach.

LINK ]Father confirms Wiregrass native Charles Kelly is joining Alabama football coaching staff (Dothan Eagle)
quote:
Wiregrass native Charles Kelly is joining head coach Nick Saban’s staff at the University of Alabama, Kelly’s father confirmed to the Dothan Eagle on Sunday.
“He’s already accepted the job,” Lavon Kelly said. “He’s up there today (Sunday) meeting coach Saban. He’ll start to work Monday.”
Kelly was the defensive coordinator at Florida State from 2014-2017 before leaving to join new Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt prior to last season as special teams coordinator and safeties coach.
A 1985 graduate and star athlete at G.W. Long in Skipperville, Kelly was a walk-on defensive back at Auburn (1986-1989) before starting his coaching career as an assistant in the high school ranks at Central-Phenix City.
Lavon Kelly said his son spent Saturday night with him before heading to Tuscaloosa on Sunday morning. Alabama hasn’t announced the hiring as of Sunday afternoon.
“I don’t know exactly what he’ll be coaching, but I think it will be in the secondary,” Lavon said. “We’ll know more about it when Saban releases it, probably sometime tomorrow (Monday).”
As reported by multiple media outlets, Kelly was also offered a job at Maryland under new head coach Mike Locksley, who served at Alabama’s offensive coordinator this past season.
“He was offered the job as defensive coordinator at Maryland and he didn’t take that,” Lavon said. “He always wanted to get back to the state. I’m glad because it gets him closer back home.
“He’s real excited about the opportunity. Hopefully one day, he’ll be a head coach. That’s what he’d like to be.”
Kelly was the linebackers coach at FSU in 2013 before being promoted to defensive coordinator. Before being hired at Florida State, Kelly served a number of roles as an assistant at Georgia Tech.
He was the special teams coach for the Yellow Jackets in 2007, cornerbacks coach from 2008-2009, defensive backs coach from 2010-2012 and also served as interim defensive coordinator to complete the 2012 season.
After starting his coaching career in the high school ranks, Kelly became a graduate assistant at Auburn in 1993. He then coached four years as an assistant at Jacksonville State, followed by one season at Division II Henderson State in Arkansas.
Kelly returned to the high school ranks in 2000 as Eufaula’s defensive coordinator and linebackers coach. In 2002, Kelly went back to the college ranks as an assistant to coach the secondary and as recruiting coordinator at Nicholls State before landing at Georgia Tech.
Kelly was inducted into the Wiregrass Sports Hall of Fame in 2014. Lavon Kelly was a well-known football coach in the area and was inducted into the Wiregrass Sports Hall of Fame in 2000.

I have no idea what position these guys will coach, but I'm happy we are getting some "seasoned" coaches. I can't wait to see how this comes together

Yeah, so far the new coaches are solid veterans.
Latest edition: Potential 2019 Staff
I was struggling how Kelly and the staff might fit together on defense, until I did some digging and realized I'd forgotten that Karl Scott's experience includes DC & LBs as well as DBs.
ETA: I just now read "Monday night coaching chatter" nuggets on BOL and it matches up with the names included on the above list -- Taylor, Wiggins, Roach and Davis are candidates; Kool not mentioned; Pannunzio off-field if he wants to stay but he also has NFL opportunities; Jones biding time off-field.

We need a petition to move Banks to an off the field role. Screw having a special teams coach, it doesn't help
I'd like to pass a motion to add a coach in a position that can be improved. Special teams is a lost cause

Also, if we insist on keeping a special teams coach, I want to offer my services at $150,000 a year. I'd consider dropping down to $125,000.
I have no idea what's I'm doing, but I can guarantee it wouldn't be worse

You're crazy, bro. STs need good coaching. Our STs were pretty solid except for the FG & PAT kicker and punter. And we gotta improve there.

They need me down there to coach and evaluate kickers and punters, then.
My technique would be to get Saban's opinion on up and coming high school kickers and punters and then offer the guys that he doesn't want. I have this figured out
