It's more like he's done an "eh, ok" job at auburn.

If Sark is in fact the next OC, I hope he ditches the pro-style offense. The strength of our Offense is the passing game, and we have 4 explosive WR's, in which at least 3 of them need to be on the field as often as possible.

I assume he will run stuff out of the spread, pro style doesn't really even exist in the Pro's. Everyone runs spread concepts. Look at the Rams, they were in 11 personnel 90% of the time and it stretched defense while also allowing them to have a power run game.

I like what KC and NE play. Their match up this weekend could be epic. PUlling for my long suffering Chiefs.

Very different schemes, but I agree. They both use the spread concepts to force defenses to make difficult choices and cover athletes in space. NE depends more on their Wr's being technicians while KC depends on route combos to allow athleticism to win out.

both feature their world class TE's which cause all kind of match up problems. This I like. And I wish Bama did more of this

This isn't true about the Pats, Gronk is done and his play shows. His injuries have slowed him majorly.
RBs catching passes is a much more prominent aspect of their offense.

Getting away from the run game is why we lost a week ago.
We averaged 5.25 ypc and both of our interceptions came on 1st down when we should have been running it.
I like our passing game too, but we should never abandon the running game.
ETA: I know you aren't saying to abandon the run game, I'm just pointing out the passing game is what let us down last week.

You can't feature a tight end exclusively when you have 4 wide receivers that relative to the talent they face are top 20 in the country. If KC had 4 of the top 20 Wr's in the country Kelce would see significantly fewer targets.

Saban directs the overall offensive philosophy. I expect it'll be pretty much like it was this season. Muliple WRs and a lot of RPOs. Saban loves explosive plays. He wants to spread it out and air it out to score early and often, putting pressure on the opponent. He wants a comfortable lead before the 4th quarter, so we can then shift to running it more on a worn down defense, chewing clock and shortening the game.

The pass game is almost always more efficient. The love of the run game here is something that doesn't make sense if you actually look at the numbers. You don't even need to establish the run for play action to work. ( I realize that this claim seems counter intuitive so here is a link to some really good work by Football outsiders on the topic Football Outsiders Rushing success and Play Action)
quote:
Putting this all together, I cannot find any support for the success of play-action passing being related in any way to a team's rushing statistics, whether measured by frequency or effectiveness.
You need balance, but every down you run is a loss of efficiency compared to passing except for some short yardage situations.
I'm not saying we should turn into Washington St and pass 70 times a game, we have tremendous talent in the backfield and I love seeing them get touches both in the run game and short passing game, but depending on the run against the best defenses is a recipe to get beaten as you will not be more efficient than their offense.
I know this view makes me unpopular around here, but it really doesn't stand up to actual reasoning. It just appeals to the RTDB pro-style tendencies that Alabama fans have.

It appears Sark will be the OC and I think Lance Taylor will be the new WR coach.

I'm just going to treat this as year 2 of the Locksley era. Same expectations and everything. Should be about right.

Only thing I know Saban is a fierce competitor and a perfectionist. The event that took place last Monday night he is not taking to kindly. As the old saying goes "there's about to be consequences and repercussions".

That's one of my issues with Sark. He's never really coached or called plays for an RPO style offense or QB. You look at every quarterback he's coached and they are all pocket statues for the most part. I may be missing somebody but I think Jake Locker is the last somewhat mobile quarterback he's coached. (Not counting his one game with Bama, of course)

There's a lot to like about both of those coaches.

Jake Locker threw for 2000 yards and ran for over 900 yards in one season.

Locker was a bad fit for Sark's offense, and Sark couldn't teach him how to be a better QB.
His athleticism was off the charts, but his mechanics were still putrid after he left UW.
