This could have been discussed ad nauseum not sure if so I apologize. My question is did change of OC’s hurt Jalen? He was the SEC player of the year and had some success throwing the ball last season. This year it was painful to watch him. It was like he was paralyzed in the pocket. What the hell happened from last year to this year with him?

Yea its just hard to belive his huge drop off. Kiffin was the better OC I guess for Jalen.

Kiffin got the most out of Hurts as a player, he yielded to Hurts' style over his own scheme at times.
Saban made remarks questioning what the offense had become after the Clemson loss, wanting to return to a more pro style approach with spread tendencies.
He goes out and hires a coach from the poster child team of that style over the last decade plus, Brian Daboll. He helped fix some things, a lot less negative yardage plays, but Hurts couldn't consistently push the ball to move the offense as a passer.
Mike Locksley's influence probably increased as well going from analyst to on field. You saw him and Jalen talking a lot in 2016 during games, and he was heavily involved inthe option aspects in 2017 (as Daboll had no experience with it).
Hoping Enos can be that guy in 2018 that lends stuff to the offense. Be rigid in fundamentals and techniques, but flexible in scheme.

Lane made things more simply for Jalen.....Daboll gave Jalen way too many options to have to digest.

Yea its been discussed once or twice......lol
By the end of 16 there was a pretty good blueprint to stop Jalen.Put 8 in the box and stay in the vicinity of the wr.
I like enos and besides what the rant says hes a damn good coach. Will prob have a lot of input on our passing game.Excited about this offense.

Was there really a huge drop off? Jay Barker said we averaged more points this year than last year. Early in Jalen's freshman season the other teams didn't have the blue print on how to defend him. Late in the year our production dropped off a good bit. And, really it was just more of the same this year when we played good teams that could get in the box and stop our running play. Saban said after last year that we were mostly a quarterback run spread option team, and that's not what we want to be. We want to be more of a pro set team with some spread option mixed in. And he said we didn't do enough to help Jalen develop. Fast forward one year and the same thing happened again. We ended up the year with a quarterback run spread option team. (Unless Tua was in the game). Saban even said after the NC game that our game plan called for a lot of quarterback runs. We saw what Auburn did to that game plan, and what Ga did to it in the first half.

So do you think Saban will actually make the change this time, or try it yet again the same way? I mean, if he said last year that's not what we want to be, and then we continued to be that, then should we expect the same again?
Personally, I wish Saban would trust his offensive coaches to do their jobs and let them do it. If he doesn't trust them to be able to do their jobs, why does he hire them?

Maybe I shouldn't have asked for the thread to be reinstated.

So how spots left to fill? 1 or 2? I know I read Bobby left for Oregon. Have we hired the 10th yet? So much turnover it’s hard to keep up. Lol

I wonder when they are going to make the official announcement on Enos.
He was recruiting this weekend, but there still hasn't been an official release from the university.

The only open spots are support staff. But there could be more assistant movement after NSD. But for now, the 2018 coaching staff is done.

I had wondered the same thing and becoming concerned, but one of the qb recruits (oops. I said that word) talked about spending time with Enos, so I guess it's good.

So Enos took Bobby’s spot?

Bobby Williams hadn't been an assistant since 2015. He was support staff the last two seasons.

Oh ok. Thanks! Like I said it was hard to keep up with.

Actually, it was announced earlier that he would be, errrr, quarterbacks coach. That may have been supposition of the guys writing the articles, but it makes sense, considering that's what he has been most of his coaching career. It's absolutely something we need, imo.
Oh yeah, and assistant head coach, I assume to justify a fat salary, since Locksley is the O.C. My guess is that Enos will have good input to the offensive style and game planning. That he has spent most of his career coaching pro style gives me confidence that we won't keep keeping on with the same type offense.

Until there is an official announcement from the athletic department, it means nothing. Even then, the actual roles are not being announced just yet.
I mean, we know he is likely going to coach QBs but will he be co-CO? We don't know right now. Last year, Lupoi wasn't known to be co-DC until contracts were approved by the BOT.

A delay in the "official announcement" of Enos may be due to attorneys doing attorney things. That is, Arkansas had a non compete clause in the settlement with Enos that precluded him going to another SEC team. Well, he spent a few weeks at Michigan so the supposition is that voided that clause, but it's my guess that Arkansas officials are crying and whining (don't you just hate that crying and whining shite), and want compensation for Enos coming to Alabama. Hopefully all that will be resolved soon and he can get on with his business of coaching football.

I may be wrong, but I don't think that's enforceable if the school let him go (which they did). It only applied if he left voluntarily.
