Travis Reier from BOL says Ansley leaving was a shock to Saban. Apparently we were planning on doubling his salary this off-season.

IMO it's nearly impossible to win with that style of offense in today's game.

And yet Georgia came very close to winning it all with that style of offense this past season.

I wonder if Ansley knew about the salary.

I'm not a huge fan of purposely handicapping ourselves.

Trust in Saban and all, but this is underwhelming to know nothing fan over here.

You have to figure that The University of Alabama, fresh off yet another national championship, could attract a proven offensive coordinator that has produced prolific offenses.

In any event, after hearing Daboll's disconcerting comments, I hope Saban allows the O.C., whoever it may be, to make his own personnel decisions.

Mike Locksley expected to be named Alabama's next OC | BamaOnline
quote:

Alabama co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach Mike Locksley is expected to be named the Crimson Tide's next offensive coordinator, BamaOnLine.com has learned. FootballScoop.com was first to report. UA has yet to announce an official hire.

Alabama is in need of an offensive play-caller with Brian Daboll electing to return to the NFL after one season. After one season, Locksley is expected to assume that role on Nick Saban's staff.

Locksley spent the 2016 season on the Tide's staff, although off the field, as an offensive analyst. He previously served as the interim head coach at Maryland for the final six games of the 2015 season. Prior to that, he served as the Terrapins offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach from 2012-15. Locksley also spent time as the head coach at New Mexico from 2009-11.

During his time as Maryland's offensive coordinator, the Terrapins produced balanced and effective results. The 2013 offense eclipsed 5,000 yards of total offense for only the fourth time in program history, while accounting for 3,231 yards passing (third most all-time).

Locksley also served as the offensive coordinator at Illinois (2005-08). While he was there, the Illini went from No. 72 nationally in total offense in 2005 to 19th following the 2008 season.

The Towson University alum is also a savvy recruiter. He is currently the nation's No. 23 recruiter and ranks 10th in the SEC, per the 247Sports Composite. He was the primary recruiter of 5-star signee Eyabi Anoma, who is from near Locksley's native Washington D.C.

He's not a big name hire so no. Illinois of all teams went to the Rose Bowl in '07 with Locksley as their offensive coordinator.

I had never heard of Nussmeir or McElwain before they got here. They did okay.

That's a big stretch, comparing Locksley to DuBose. DuBose had just one season of experience as a defensive coordinator, the rest of his career spent as a defensive line coach, when he was hired to be Alabama's head football coach in 1997. Locksley has quality experience as an offensive coordinator and play caller, with successful stints as the OC at both Illinois and Maryland.

We can't hire a big name OC because the Goat coach has to micro manage the offense. Always has and always will.

And Ron Zook as their HC. Put Zook on the short list to replace Saban!

Yeah and with the shitty results we've gotten they should fire his arse so we can be a prolific offensive team.

Insider on BOL claims Chip Long wanted to bring an assistant with him to Bama along with another requirement (assuming something to do with Locksley or not having a Co-OC).
