I don't know why or if it's actually up for debate, but if people are discussing it on a message board, then I'll throw in my opinion.

Which was my first point I made in this thread before the little Snowflake Spleen and his lack of reading com prehension got his tighty-whities in a wad.
What kind of virtue signaling is this? Why is this even being discussed?

I did go roughly 10 years without voting, so I may have forgotten where I was registered or if I needed to register again.

You're the one ranting and raving about a topic of discussion. You were free to just ignore the discussion, but felt it important to let everyone know how little you cared about the topic.

Maybe read back to see how the conversation has evolved and why it was brought up?

Because the topic shifted to Doug Jones being inaccurately portrayed as a "far-left liberal" which then led to someone claiming that the SCOTUS ruling on gay marriage was an example of authoritarianism.

I don't think he's a far-left liberal. I think he's a opportunist that seeks to line his pockets and will vote as far-left or as far-right as he needs to in order to keep the his status with the Dem caucus happy.
His no vote this morning shows he knows he is going to be slaughtered in 2020 so he is marching in step to keep that K Street lobbyist opportunity in reach.

IMO, he was a dead man walking in 2020 regardless of how he voted today. 2020 is a Presidential year which means that conservative voter turnout will be much higher than in 2017. Also, a lot of Republicans who voted for Jones because his opponent was Roy Moore will back the Republican nominee...provided it's not Roy Moore again

Eh, I think its gonna be a serious challenege for him to get re-elected, but there is a path. If the dems take over in the midterms, he may have the oppurtunity to shut down gun legislation and has already been building a pro-business resume.
While obviously Moore gave him the opportunity, it was primarily black women who typically don't vote that got him elected. If he can keep some moderates on his side and get more of the black communities out to vote, he'll have a decent chance. Especially considering that radicals are more likely to vote in primaries, so he may have the benifit of not going up against a moderate like himself
I certainly don't think it is likely, but I also think he does have a legitmate shot.

His best chance at re-election would have been to immediately switch parties upon winning and spend the rest of his term trying to paint himself as a moderate Republucan.

If voting really made a difference it would be illegal.

Never underestimate the egos of Alabama politicians that prevent one (Brooks) from getting out of the way of the other (Strange), nor the ability of Alabama voters to vote for a fricking moron.

As Ann Coulter has pointed out, Trump picked the wrong guy (Strange) over the one (Brooks) who supports his campaign immigration agenda. Trump screwed this one up first by NOT supporting Brooks. Strange was too also too connected to the Luv Guv.

Imagine what? He's picked two excellent supreme court justices and a third on the way soon enough.

You mean the guy that had to apologize for losing his cool in one of the biggest hearings of his life?
Flynn is going to jail for lying to the FBI.
Cohen is going to jail partly for campaign finance violations.
Manafort is in jail.
Gates is in jail (I think?).
Over a quarter of his cabinet has changed and we're only in year 2.
etc.

What's this "we" shite? This is one country. We're supposed to be on the same team. I'm not on any side.
