I don’t see us moving our TE coach who has never coordinated outside one season of HS football Into that position.

J/k I really don't know much about him.

I think the TE coach promotion seems more reactionary to Iowa apparently courting Svoboda to join as OC
Since his results are consistent for 5+ years, and offensive success is well documented prior to this year at Tulane, I would not dismiss his abilities due to the idea that play calling was a collaborative effort
Saying he was “stripped” of playcalling seems presumptuous given it was before the season even began so we honestly don’t know, as that could’ve been Fritz’s intention all along

This was why I was so surprised when Saban placed Loxley as OC

Before the season even starts? Lol
Edit: I stand corrected. Nagle apparently understood Tulane’s personnel better, and worked with Svoboda to compliment his west coast style with a more effective run game approach, eventually winning over the role of play-caller around mid season
Nagle + Svoboda
Honestly would take either but probably more in favor of Nagle now eventhough he had never been an OC before

Keep in mind with Svoboda, he was basically stripped of the offensive play calling duties before the season started, and according to Willie Fritz, play calling "were a staff-wide effort". Slade Nagle basically became the defacto OC back during spring drills, and has now been given the title officially even though Svoboda is technically still on the staff.

The article date is 01/06/23, and it appears your interpretation and paraphrasing of it are inaccurate. It appears Svoboda wasn't really "stripped" of anything and Nagle wasn't promoted to OC until after the 2022 season and Cotton Bowl.
Maybe Svoboda has been hired away, but it's still unannounced.

quote:
The future of former offensive coordinator Jim Svoboda is unclear, although he and Fritz repeatedly said during the season that game plans and play calling were a staff-wide effort and the coaches meshed well.
Quarterback Michael Pratt praised Svoboda several times, pointing out he did not overcoach concepts and had an easy-to-understand system that still had an answer for anything an opponent defense tried.

A quick Twitter search shows his name is mostly associated with Iowa fans calling him the new OC

Tulane. In one year they went from Offensive FEI of 74th to 25th, and went from scoring 27.6 pts/game in 2021 to 36 this past year.
No offense, but this is the same logic that brought the hobbit from tumbleweed texas to Bama.
We need to get back to you gotta have name recognition, and be an established coach in the big leagues to be a coordinator at Bama. No problem with up and coming coaches with lots of potential, but OC and DC need to be known commodities IMO.

Loxley had been a head coach and OC at the collegiate FBS level. He and Joe Cox’s resumes aren’t even comparable.

Here is a better article that describes Tulane's offensive coaching makeup from last year: LINK
quote:
But on the field in spring ball, Fritz wasn’t seeing what he needed from Pratt and the offense. He split up squads for the spring game — Svoboda led one grouping and tight ends coach Slade Nagle led the other. By this time, Nagle was the only holdover from Long’s contingent and had been with Fritz for seven seasons. And Fritz saw enough on one side to warrant a drastic change in the operating system of the offense. Conversations with Nagle began to emerge regarding a shift to him controlling the offense.
In July, Fritz turned the keys to his offense over to Nagle, a tight ends coach with no prior coordinator experience, multiple sources with knowledge of the operation confirmed.
quote:
It marked an end to Svoboda’s full control over the offense. And in stepped Nagle.
The only reason that I know anything about Tulane's offense is because I was perusing Miss St's 247 site out of curiosity about who they'd get as their OC, and one of their site mods threw Nagle's name as some he heard was a possible candidate. Their posters went nuts assuming that they might hire a TEs coach as their OC until it was explained that he had basically taken control of their offense this past year.
ETA: Looks like HighTide_ATL beat me with posting this article.

People are really wanting to hire a guy from Tulane that possibly doesn't even call their plays? Wow.

I'll take AJ Milwee in a heartbeat.

Gotcha. Thanks.
No problem.

Although I don't know why my last post was down voted. I just posted what was in the article, and there are other articles that talks about their offense. Trust me when I say that the Miss St board vetted the situation out way beyond what they probably needed to, especially since they didn't even hire Nagle.

I don't understand your obsession with Milwee. What exactly has he done to show he'd make a good OC? Ewers looked like shite this year for the most part.

I guess it's folks downvoting Svoboda (and Nagle) as potential Bama OC candidate(s).

Anyway, thanks again.

People with real connections know just how good he is.
Didn't Ewers get hurt? How did Tua, Mac, & Bryce look? He help develop them...that's FACTS
Everybody wants that BIG NAME OC...better be careful of what your asking for.
We need somebody who can mesh everything together...
By the way it's just my choice bro...you don't have to agree
