I doubt they prepared for NC State for three weeks. They didn't know immediately after the Alabama game that their next two games would be cancelled. But yes, they got whooped.

It's obvious you didn't watch the Free Shoes vs NC State game. They dinked it and dunked it all game long. The biggest play they hit all day was on 10 yard route that the receiver took 70 yards.

NC State is one of those teams that has head scratching losses but they give FSU and Clemson hell every single year.

I didn't see all of the FSU vs NC State game but did NC State block any kicks or cause fumbles on kickoffs?

I was at the game (it was hot-- shock ) and don't recall special teams helping/hurting either team. FSU turned the ball over once (fumble by scrambling 185 lb QB), but only got one TD early in the 2nd quarter. Their remaining scores were 4 Field Goals and a safety.

NCState's success at pressuring the QB was certainly aided by FSU having a true freshman 6'5" 185 QB compared to Francois, who could have beaten Bama with his legs should we not contain. JF's experience was a big difference in the two games.

Our OL just got whooped game 1. We didn't game plan for it well or adjust. Their LBs, DBs and Safeties tackled well against Bama, stalling drives. They didn't against NCState. FSU was rusty, NCState was "mid-season" form.

Compare Florida State's offensive stats against Bama v. Colorado State's stats.

Does this mean Colorado State is better?

Good summary. FSU seriously broke after DF went down and I'm not sure Jimbo even knew how to fix it from there. The 2 weeks off obviously made the team rusty and the Fresh QB is quite frankly not ready for this. There were times where he would make a nice play but he is going to get killed if he isn't careful. My only thought is Jimbo would have to switch to an RPO to help this kid the rest of the season. I saw several plays where he was downright confused.

Finley is a good QB and having a great season. He torched SCarolina. His passing ability is above Jalen's at this point. Hopefully, Jalen progresses in this area. Finley is a grad student, FWIW.

I actually thought their freshman QB played a decent game all things considered. They were in his face most of the game (much like we were with DF12) and he made some nice throws. He made some mistakes, but he didn't lose the game for them. Their defense just looked poorly coached again.

I must agree, the NC State game plan was simple and it was perfect and we should have adapted it at halftime. If they want to continue to bring pressure and an extra man frequently on a blitz, throw it where they ain’t! It’s basic and fundamental and we didn’t do it. You blunt a pass rush by burning it with screens and draws and the blitz by throwing to hot routes in the vacated space left by the blitzer. We either didn’t incorporate the plays to do it, or our offense didn’t execute it. That’s inexcusable and we may very well look back on the FSU win later on as an overinflated W.

I don't really think it was that inflated, especially considering we all knew after the game their solid QB was now being replaced by a true freshman.

Either way, we beat a pretty good team by 17 points and didn't play that well on offense.

Solid start to the season.
