if Milroe decided to transfer, there would be a long line of schools with their hands up, desiring to be "duped". He is learning, improving a little each week as they add a little each week to the plays he can run. To me, his biggest problem is or was floating out the back of the pocket and running to the right. Jaylen Hurts replay. When he steps up in the pocket running the ball is much more successful, especially if there is a seam, and it forces the spy on defense to move up, which can open up the middle. When he floats out the back and runs half speed to the right, he almost never finds a receiver and usually gets sacked. Hurts just always threw it up in the stands. I dont doubt that the coaches dont like the idea of him running a lot because they dont want the number 2 quarterback in the starting lineup.
He's raw as a passer, can't read a defense, and a marginally good runner. A long line of schools would be getting "a work in progress" with him.

According to this article, the highest Hurts has been clocked at is 20.5 MPH in a game.
Wow that's a big difference! Look at these 40 comparison, Jalen Hurts ran a 4.59 at the combine.LINK Milroe ran a 4.64 in HS. Not that it matters much but Milroe is no Lamar Jackson.

Maybe not in a 40-yard dash (although Milroe's time is from HS), but in that same article it shows that Lamar's fastest run in 2022 in a game was 20.48 mph (although this video shows one run of 21.01 mph in 2020: NFL.com video)
I just think you guys are really underestimating how fast Milroe is, even if his initial acceleration might be lacking a bit.

Too bad he can't seem to get in the open field without getting tripped up or easily tackled.
Get back with me when Milroe can do this....

If you're using BY as the bar for what Bama QBs should be going forward, you're going to be awfully disappointed.

I said earlier Milroe can't move in the pocket anywhere close to Bryce and was downvoted. I'm an Alabama fan and I'm pulling for Milroe but let's not make him out to be something he's not. He's average and I don't believe a long line of P5 schools would line up for him like you think.
We tend to inflate our opinions of Bama players. I remember a few years ago arguing with you guys who were certain Slade Bolden would go in the NFL draft. LOL!

Initial acceleration is more important. You’re not going to get too many opportunities to run for a straight line long enough to pick up speed. Also his lateral quickness and agility aren’t great. Hurts isn’t fast but he can juke and break tackles.
This is going to sound weird but his effectiveness as a runner (while BETTER) is closer to Coker than it is Hurts. They have very different running styles but they’re not guys that are going to pile up rushing yards like Hurts. Even if they ran more.

Multiple people have said he's one of the fastest guys on the team and his top speed on a run in game this season would rank in the top of nfl qb speeds clocked this year.
I also don't think his initial acceleration is the problem. I think it's fine. I think his problem is hesitation and indecisiveness. He waits to long to take off when he doesn't see an open receiver and there's green in front of him.
By the time he finally decides to run there's a defender on his heels. If he'd just put his foot in the ground and head for green he'd be very tough to catch.

I firmly believe they did.
It's been posted quite a few times that Milroe looks at himself like a pocket passer. He doesn't want to be labeled a running QB. I am almost 100% certain it's his decision to try not to run but instead is always trying to find the open receiver. So much so to the point of getting sacked after holding the ball for 4-5 seconds. If he would just get the internal clock of knowing after 3 seconds to either tuck and run or throw it away, a ton of our issues on offense would go away. His indecisiveness kills more drives than it saves. But with more reps, more experience, he is looking better and better each week.
I also think there was a few weeks where he was injured. I know there was a rumor of a hamstring injury and after those rumors, he didn't even think about scrambling but once or twice a game. I don't think he was dealing with a hamstring because he never limped or anything like that, but I think he was dealing with some sort of injury/soreness from the beating he's taken.

I think Milroe and the coaching staff have worked hard on improving his game. You can see this in not taking unnecessary sacks and trying to run when appropriate, but his play is still tentative.

This. It's so frustrating seeing him rollout with nothing but green in front of him for an easy 15 yard gain...yet he keeps looking to pass...and rarely finds anyone before getting sacked or run out of bounds for a loss or small gain.
This is a game where we've got to move the chains and keep our D fresh...if 8 yards is there, take it.

He can’t. He just has some decent straight line speed and that’s it. He’s not very shifty or good at making tacklers miss
