What the hell are you taking about? It is beyond laughable for anyone to claim George Denny had more impact on what Alabama football is today than Nick Saban. This program was a complete joke before Saban arrived. The decline between Bryant and Saban, with the exception of the Stallings years would have been impossible to correct for anyone besides Saban.

I’m old, but not so old my memory has left me.

I mean, some people might?

But you're essentially forced to think of Coach Bryant when you think of BDS.

I mean, do you think of Dr. Steadman Vincent Sanford each time you hear someone mention Sanford Stadium?

You sound like those LSU/fAU fans making the "quantity vs quality" argument when it comes to our recruiting. ?

Is that how they're coping after claiming he couldn't recruit at all? Are they too stupid to realize they're also recruiting most of these players?

Tbh a good percentage believes our stadium is sponsored by Denny's. I know of two personally who thought this (neither from the South)

They need to take Denny's name off and rename it Bryant-Saban

I'm Curious for the downvote? He was a President of the University that apparently named everything after himself. IMO, You get the Chimes or the Stadium not both.

I have to ask: were you alive when Denny was our university's president? He left Alabama in 1936 - almost 90 years ago. One can definitely appreciate the hires he made (Xen Scott, Wallace Wade, and Frank Thomas), but that was a long time ago. I doubt there is a person on this message board who even remembers Denny let alone was alive when he lived in that mansion off University Blvd.

So 90 years from now we should take all the names down and replace them with folks the current generation "remembers."

Got it.

Saban Field is appropriate and from the renderings Saban's name will be placed in multiple prominent locations.

Sure. It happens all the time. And there is plenty of precedent for this happening all over the world.

I mean, shite, we had that happen just this past year in the city of Augusta, GA. The military installation here in the city had been known as Fort Gordon since it opened in 1941. Last year it changed its name to Fort Eisenhower.

Time doesn't stand still. Occasionally people come along that are more influential and "greater" than the ones who came before them.

Recency bias for more well-known individuals had nothing to do with military installation name changes.

That is hardly relevant. The fact of the matter is that prominent buildings, complexes, streets, and other man-made objects are frequently renamed as men and women who significantly impact communities come and go.

George H. Denny was a giant during his time and did a lot to grow The University of Alabama's academic and athletic footprint in the years he was president. However, I would argue that there isn't a man or woman in the history of the school who has had more of an economic, cultural, or social impact than Nicholas Lou Saban Jr.

Not trying to be confrontational, as your last point is correct. But, you likened it to military name changes, as if Gordon were now Eisenhower because Ike is more recent, more achieved, and better known.

That is not the case. It was changed in part to appease a woke movement and in another part to correct the appeal to Southern states by honoring traitors to the Union with installations named for them.

In any case, I think Saban absolutely deserves more than a name on the field unless Bama is going the Aggie Kyle Field route and referring to home games as being played at Saban Field. He has more than earned it alongside Coach Bryant.

Personally, I generally agree with the notion that we should not name military installation after insurrectionists. But I think the great mistake of reconstruction was not hanging or shooting the generals and civilian Southern aristocrats that led the CSA then redistributing their property to poor whites and freed men. So I reckon I'm a bit hard on those assholes.

All of this is true.

What's also true is that Eisenhower has significantly more history in Augusta than Gordon ever did. He frequented the area because he was an avid golfer and even gave his Farewell Address at Fort Gordon in 1961. The hospital on base has been named after him for decades. Politics aside, it more than makes sense to rename the base in his honor since - unlike the base's original namesake - he actually has history within the community.

yeah, nobody alive today remembers the good ol days when Denny was President at UA. He has PLENTY of recognition. The stadium needs to be Bryant-Saban at Denny Field. I honestly dont get the rationale of the people in these high up positions that make these decisions.

No, you can't take a name away, Denny was a very important person in Alabama history. Its classless to ever remove a name, unless he was a Hitler.

Combine Nick and the Bear and call it Brick stadium, JK, don't boo.

I have to think there is some marketing opposition to Bryant-Saban (BS) Stadium

Bryant-Denny-Saban keeps the BDS moniker, but gets lengthy

Saban-Bryant Stadium at Denny Field would be contentious for the older folks, but seems the best option to put Nick's name on the Stadium.

Or, marketing folks work hard to have it referred to as Saban Field (a la Kyle Field) or more fully, Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium

The field name will be forgotten in less than a decade, maybe even less than that. It is a huge insult in my opinion to not change the name of the stadium. Saban deserves significantly more than having his his name spray painted on something that can easily be removed by a craftsman pushmower.
