Linebacker Play Will be a Strength Next Season

The depth and experience will be there. Circumstances have made us play Lee, Harris, Kaho and Benton when those guys would get more seasoning if circumstances were different. We should have some great competition for starting spots.

Sure...if they're well-coached.

Yeah, my money is that if the same coaching staff is intact, with the same people coaching the same units, the defense will be in the same spot this time again next year. At some point, accept it for it is - Saban reached too far in trying to get a young and upcoming assistant in Golding. He wanted another Kirby who could stay for the long haul, and whiffed big time.
And talking about depth next year...what if Moses declares for the draft? What if McMillon decides to move on? Will "youth" be an excuse everyone uses for Golding, yet again?
With the way players have been leaving early for the draft or transferring out over the past few seasons, youth and/or experience can be used as an excuse every year. No reason to think it will stop moving forward. That's why getting good coordinators is crucial.
I've said it a hundred times now..the fact that a coordinator role was given to anyone who had a hand in the defensive performance against Clemson last year is mind-boggling. That wasn't Clemson making plays against a good scheme. That was Clemson shredding an absolute abomination of a defensive game plan.
People can harp about Benton and Lee not being up to snuff this year. That's fine. But what happened last year? Mack Wilson wasn't young, but consistently looked like the linebackers this year - out of place, not knowing what to do, where to line up. That's coaching.

Lupoi and Golding were both projects. Alabama can do better than projects at that position.
And if Greg Byrne is really the AD we would like to believe he is, he finds a way to have that conversation with Saban if necessary.

Totally agree. No in game adjustments at all. If I can call the qb draw from the couch, surely they could see it coming. We have lost our edge or swagger on defense. No one is afraid of our defense anymore. We don’t play to the standard of making their arse quit like Saban preached when he first came. We have evolved on offense, I’m confident that Saban will take a hard look at his defense and make some tweaks. We have been trying to fit a round peg in a square hole the last two years. We need to simplify the defense so our athletes can play

I would be willing to bet it’s not

Benton made some decent plays up the middle but on the edges he got owned.

Based on what? Depth and experience doesn't mean it will be good depth and good experience.

We just make too many mental errors....and now we have started to make physical errors. Not good

I miss Reuben.
Whats Kaho's deal? He's gotta be close to earning that playing time.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Hopefully there is a good grad transfer that Nick can sign at ILB for 2020. Being young is one thing but after 8 games tell me you saw anything great done by 8 or 35? 36?
Hell no and 10 has been their 2 years and he can't even replace those other average players and there is NOBODY behind these guys. 42 was a last minute roster filler at best.

Sunseri coaches the OLB. I think he's always done a good job for us...certainly in his first stint here.
Golding coaches the ILB. So no, I don't believe for one second they will automatically be significantly better.

The more the better, but don't sleep on Demouy Kennedy, LB from Theodore,AL, best LB prospect we have signed in years. I think he will be an impact player from day 1.

I'm interested in seeing if Kennedy takes someone's job

That shouldn't be very difficult.
