Saban says via @PatMcAfeeShow that he didn’t like the look from Michigan’s defense on the last play of the game.
Said that the play had no option to get a look from Michigan’s defense and then change to something else, and they had already used a timeout, so they ran the play.

Why not plan with a back up play and give Milroe an audible option? This game was mismanaged from the start.

He admitted that a failure to do that was a failure by the coaching staff.

Saban said what some of us have been since the game ended.
This was a coaching screw up. After that the line screwed it further.
I still can't believe he actually let Rees convince him to run a gap play in short yardage situation when they killed us on the line bringing some kind of blitz or twist to blow up our interior in every short yardage situation.

Call me crazy, but I find it hard to believe that the coaching staff forgot all about having a back up plan in case they got a bad look. Not buying it.
Sounds like Saban is being a good coach and accepting blame instead of letting it fall on the players.

I suppose it is possible that the audible play was also not a good play, or even a worse play for what Michigan showed.

It was a poorly coached game.
Really, the game had a lot of similarities to the Texas game, though I won’t say we were as bad against Michigan as we were against Texas.
- Poor coaching.
- Poor play on both lines.
- Milroe didn’t play well.
- Linebackers and secondary confused multiple times.
- Receivers not making a big impact.

Then take a delay, back it up five and run the play you want coach

This is like when a woman says she has her own "truth".
Saban calls out the coaching staff then the OL and it's obvious those were the main issues

Milroe lacks the football IQ to audible. I doubt the coaching staff even gives him the authority to do so.

All Milroe had to do was follow the pulling guard. Plain as day on the tape.

Saban talking about the last play today. Hard for Milroe to read the play when he had to take his eyes off the defense to catch the snap.

I'm looking at that play. Again no football background but..
1) if the play was run as designed... Why pull 77? Bama had 5 on 4 but 77 pulled leaving 4 oline to block 4 d line. Seemingly bad odds especially when the strongest guy on the team is running himself out of the play
2) what was designed for Bonds to be doing? He is 5..6 yds off the sideline and he's going to the right? I know we have talked a lot about slants etc ... But if 17 breaks left off the snap there is no defense in the endzone till the letter I in Michigan and he's running towards the RB in the flat ...why go outside to such a short area with that route?
