Any chance we could get him? Any chance we even want him?

Why? I actually think we will have transfers out the way we are set at QB right now.

Why do you think we are set at quarterback? Serious question, not a challenge??

Barnett. While nothing is a guarantee, most seem to think he has a good chance of being the best QB Saban has had at Alabama.

Gotcha.
I would probably feel better with someone seasoned on the sidelines in case Barnett has some growing pains in actual game play. But I wonder if any transfer QB would want to fill that role...

Saban has shown he isn't afraid to carry a ton of qb's on the roster so I would guess there would be a spot available if he wanted to come. I don't see this happening since he wants to be the starter and I don't know how hard he would work for it.

We should bring in Trevor Knight to help us prepare for OU if we get the chance to play them

I'll believe it when it happens. Saban doesn't have a great track record with developing QBs.

I think Saban has just whiffed in terms of evaluating. The only one that really hit that he signed was McCarron (granted, that was a big hit). Hopefully Kiffin will get that straightened out and leave us with some pretty good talent at the position.

I mean if you look at the guys that have been recruited and left, it's not like they went to other places and set the world on fire. So to me it's more of an evaluation issue than a development one.

I'm hoping we can get a young guy in there to develop some consistency at that position. I like Barnett and Hurd. Plus, we wouldn't want to scare away these qb recruits we're pursuing.

In the end, it's basically the same thing.

Well, the result is the same. The solution is not.

We have Barnett and hopefully Fromm coming in. Bateman is still here and a serviceable backup for the remainder of a game is the starter gets banged up. (do not want him to start against a quality opponent right now or probably ever.) I also see us picking up a QB every year. QB recruiting is so fickle too. If we hold on to what we have we are set for the present and short term future. If you get to heavy, you are going to see transfers.

ETA: I even forgot Hurd in that assessment.

I actually think we do a great job of both. The problem is the DWatsons and the other top tier QBs do not want to come to UA. Even Winston was from AL with a die hard UA family. Every top QB out there we seem to go after so evaluations are not a concern we just end up taking who we can get in the end. Development wise we did a great job with AJ, a tremendous job with Blake, and a rally good job with Coker. The problem is all these QBs have limitations but we still seem to get the max out of their play.

Any top tier b out of HS is looking for a system where they can be showcased and that is not UA. You want to be showcases in our offense you better be a RB and occasional a WR does as well

What is crazy is that if the right QB with all the tools did run the offense the comparisons to Tom Brady are there for the taking.

I don't believe that at all.

Exactly. A good QB could EASILY be a top 5 pick at UA.

a tremendous job with Blake

We were stuck with Blake because we didn't do shite with the real QBs we signed

We brought Blake in as a QB, and he stayed at QB until he got the opportunity to start, save that one year where we needed depth at RB. And when he was our QB, he was great for us, so whether you consider him an inconvenience for us or not, Blake was a win for Saban and co. in the developmental department. You can argue that it was all Amari, or all Kiffin, or whatever, but at the end of the day, Blake came up huge for us in tight moments last year, and his deep ball was unmatched by any Alabama QB that I can remember.

Before him it was McCarron who was great, and then Mcelroy who Saban didn't even recruit.

Your argument is just not very strong.
