It’s like Pope built this team out of players that fixed their weaknesses from last year…while doing nothing to add players that actually fit his system and style of play

The Auburn choke was a nice sweetener to this game.

Great post game presser. A few highlights

-Noah had his best game and thinks this gives him confidence. Says it’s great to see he has this kind of ability and he can build on it

-Allen won the hard hat and immediately gave it to Noah

-Oats says he feels bad he didn’t get Bethea more minutes. *

*personal note: This is starting to feel like the Kimmel joke where he says “And apologies to Matt Damon. We ran out of time” at the end of every show.

-Teaches a reporter how to silence his ringing phone

-I don’t know of a more transparent coach in basketball. He was brutally honest about Kentucky and what we wanted to do. Complimented them, but openly said they don’t move the ball well and any games they had a lot of assist were against cupcakes playing zone.

Damn Oats they’re already dead

Damn good game today. Salvaged my week. Thank God for Oats and the boys

I’m telling you I don’t think Oats and Bethea see eye to eye. That’s my gut feeling on his lack of PT.

It very well could be. He definitely chewed his arse on a 3 and pulled him quick.

The only thing that doesn’t track with that is he consistently expresses how he’s a great scorer and he’s working to find him more minutes. Vs like TBB who he sound like he wants to put through a table like the Dudley boys. He’s so damn honest that you never have to guess, but I’ve also run out of legitimate reasons why he’s not getting run so you might just be right.

I agree. I don't think Oats trusts him to play within the offense. The guys who do get away with the occasional logo 3 or middie. Bethea finds his way to the bench as soon as he does something he shouldn't though. Then Oats forgets he's there.

Did they move Chris and Passink? Are the no longer courtside?

Yes - they are up above the Tide Pride seats on the north side of Coleman. Apparently sold the courtside seats at the media table (on each side of the TV broadcast crew)

I know several businesses were having promotions (? or not sure what to call it, Conecuh maybe) where they had VIP folks sitting at courtside so maybe just a one game deal? I could be wrong on that.

Speaking of radio, I listened to the Aub/UGa game on the way home after our game Saturday. AU radio man Burcham is not great but serviceable, our guy is much better, but his sidekick? Holy shite, STFU while Burcham is calling the action. You literally couldn't hear what was going on due to them talking over each other. I realize it happens occasionally but hell, I was embarrassed for them. I felt like there was dead air some b/c Burcham just couldn't deal with it anymore. They gotta fix that. It's bad.

Yeah they are a big downgrade from Rod Bramblett(RIP) and Sonny Smith.

Andy and Jason Campbell is an even bigger downgrade tho. At least hearing Stan White cry was entertaining.

Think Wrightsell is a good bit better defender than Bethea. He’s extremely fast and Nate was singing his praises for being able to guard a much larger MoD yesterday, who was KY’s 2nd leading scorer coming into the game.

Additionally, I’m not sure I’ve ever seen Wrightsell take a 3pt shot that I didn’t want him to take. He rarely plays selfishly trying to “get his,” although he’s a fantastic run stopper and has buried lots of 3s in the middle of the other team’s run (he’s not scared of big moments).

Bethea seems to be a more natural creator and likely better finisher at the rim, but Wrightsell offers more than Houston or Bethea on a few fronts that I think are important IMO

Alabama is going to score with Oats. We're going to cut down nets with rebounding and defense.

He wanted guaranteed starter minutes and Oats wouldn't promise him that.
