We have to get better across the board. Our defense has HUGE gaps. PHENOMENAL is not the word I would use. With that being said....

I will concede that they had three massive stops. The first drive of the game, the bray forced fumble and the 4 & 1 stop.

Also if I'm not mistaken we had two dlinemen take the same gap on the end. Luckily one broke through and barely made a shoe string tackle. Not sure if Sapp gets there or not.

Even the great Nick Saban had trouble with a running quarterback.

I agree we got to work on having PROPER eye discipline and attacking gaps.

The play where Bray Hubbard caused the fumble on Georgia's running back is a PERFECT example of hitting your gap!

It's an ATTACKING scheme!

Sure, but very rarely did a running QB beat Alabama if they weren't hitting passes. Hell, Georgia mostly avoided using Stockton as a runner. I think they are concerned with their QB depth and can't afford the contact on him. We got chewed up on the ground by skill position players carrying the ball.

Also, I don't think we have an attacking scheme. We love feinting pressure but rarely bringing it. In fact, that is the problem. We're crowding the line of scrimmage and end up having our 2nd level washed out of the play when the offense calls a run.

We have far too many situations where we'd need Ed Reed and Troy Polamalu at the safety positions to clean up all these situations where the corners are isolated on a ball carrier or even worse completely blocked out of making a tackle.

His run D just isn’t sound. We consistently get outflanked. On one of the big runs last night, UGA had two uncovered lineman (LG and LT, maybe) able to get to the 2nd level to double team the LB. That should never happen.

Wommack needs to go, like tonight.

The only way I see Wommack's scheme actually being a real formidable defense and not just a paper tiger is by having 11 NFL starters out there. The only thing that would make this workable is having future pro bowlers all over the place that can just individually erase opportunities for the offense that are endemic to the scheme.

Regrettably this is college so you’re going to have a few future dentists and insurance salesmen out there.

when it MATTERED MOST...they stood up and made plays!

Yea... No. UGA shot themselves. Had UGA kept running off the end, we wouldn't have gotten the ball back.

Defense made a few plays but I can’t deny the feeling that UGA stopped themselves in the fourth quarter. I’m never going to apologize for the opponent helping my team win though.

Did y'all even watch the game?

Alabama DROPPED 2 or 3 interceptions.

Some of its scheme some of its coaching we do not set the edge at all. Whatever it is this team does not win anything with a defense playing like this it has to improve and right the hell now.

What I saw out there was disgraceful. A high school team at times would not have been gashed any worse.

We weren't a good defense against the run last year but Campbell did erase some things just with his individual ability even if initially out of position.

There is no Campbell out there this year. So we're not even getting a few runs cleaned up by him just being able to make up for being in poor position due to the play call.

We've played two opponents who will finish above .500 and they ran for 230 and 227 yards respectively. We don't play a poor rushing offense until the road trip to Columbia, South Carolina. It is not hard to believe that Alabama gives up 200+ on the ground in 4 straight games given what we've seen thus far.

Sure, Alabama could win every one of those games but we better hope Ty Simpson doesn't have an off game. Probably won't be able to win games only scoring 24 even if the offense broadly speaking looks good. When you're that bad at run defense, your offense needs to be boatracing teams so they panic and adandon it.

We have no and I mean no linebacker play Lawson is completely lost or he's not seeing football the way the rest of us see because he's diving at bodies that aren't there.

There’s a reason Lawson is a 5th year senior and still at school. Think about that. How many 5th year senior have we had stay at that position. He’s awful. Runs away from the action. Gets lost in scrums. Never making plays. When is the last time you heard his name on a big play??? I’ve honestly never even seen him make a big hit. Hes soft as baby shite

Lawson was pretty decent in the Saban era. He was a quality inside backer in 2023. He’s just not made the transition to this scheme and playing on surgery that usually takes two years to really get you back to status quo even if technically healed.

They gashed us 3 times from the same formation where Domani has to be the contain. Mo Linguist was yelling and motioning for Domani to scoot up so that he could set the edge. Domani was scared or hurt after the struck the TE early in the game in my opinion. I dont think that's on Wommack though because he's a SEC corner.. he has to be able to come up and make a tackle when the formation dictates that he has C gap.

You have an awful memory. Lawson has never been good. Campbell covered his arse all the time.

What helps the defense the most…is our offense.

We are methodical drive it down your throat offense. 14 plays here, 14 plays there and they are ending with points.

The defense has time to rest and prepare. And nothing better for your confidence than knowing your brothers just scored and you have the lead to protect.

Rush:
Qua (OUT)
Latham (OUT)
Pierre
DE:
Overton
Renault
NT:
Keenan (75% / missed 3 games)
Beamon (OUT)
Simmons
DT:
Smith (Targeting SUS)
Hill

Yall we just played a top 5 FEI offense on the road at night with 5 of our 8 DL two deep out, what the hell did anyone expect was gonna happen?

I consider it a minor miracle they only gave up 21 and credit to the toughness of the guys who are out there playing too many snaps or before they’re ready that we didn’t get completely embarrassed Saturday.

Seriously, just enjoy the wins because this is an imperfect team trying to fight through some horrible injury luck right now.

There are absolutely scheme issues at times and I’ve already said my piece about the LBs, but they’re also eating blocks they wouldn’t with more experienced play up front so again we should all just be ecstatic to get out of Sanford stadium with a win and be hoping for the best against what is a really, really good Vandy offense.
