She dropped the appeal back in June.

Yep. It had nothing to do with the "Reagan wave" and it's revisionist history to claim othewise. If not for that screwup by the Dems, Alabama wouldn't have had a Republican governor until Fob James flipped parties to oppose Jim Folsom (who took over for Guy Hunt after he was convicted of a felony. so maybe even Fob winning as a R isn't set in stone).

Man it took me forever to find an article about this. Thanks for the info. Maybe that means good things for the Alabama Democrat Party. I hope not.

ETA: I think it's likely the rift over all of this infighting will take at least a decade to correct, as you said. Probably still a long road ahead for the AL Dems.

Wishful thinking. It's painful how unaware you are.

Hubbert wasn't the issue. Reed and his ADC was. And when Obama won in 2008, nearly every white Democrat in the state switched parties. In fact, your own Governor was a Democrat at one point.

Reed endorsed Hillary over Obama because he knew an Obama win would be the death of the state Democrats.

You should know your party better than I do...

They were both issues.

This is such a stupid thing to say. Doug Jones never would have won his election if this was true.

Do you also think these people would have voted for Hillary in 2016 if Ben Carson had ended up the R candidate?

Why is it so hard for you to understand that the problem with your party is the ideals they espouse, not the color or sex of the people running?

The infighting can be quickly forgotten. The bigger hurdle is Reed and Worley left nothing to build upon. No useful voter database, no useful internal polling, no get out the vote infrastructure, no space in the party for more progressive groups, a soured relationship with the naitonal DNC etc. And that's not to mention the financial mess they left behind as well. England and the new leadership are effectively building a state party from scratch.

Honestly, that's probably better. Especially the part about getting rid of the old guard of the AEA (Reed). I'm sure they'll mess that up and marry themselves to the AEA again somehow though.

The new Democratic Party will be more of a reflection of the Howell Heflin 80s/90s moderate than anything, minus Reed & Worley. If/when Jones loses in November, he will likely be the new party chairman.

Did they all run back to the Dems or no?

Was Jones elected after Obama or no?

So Saban said "All Lives Matter" on Gameday.

People on this site and Twitter want him "cancelled" now.

I hate the internet for latching onto this. Did he fumble his words a bit? Yeah, probably. But his statement was about the message his players have sent:

quote:

I think they (the players) are doing some things that can effect change in the community and in the messaging that they’ve sent that all lives matter, including black lives.

I'm sure the players wouldn't necessarily describe their message that way, but it's a lot different than him saying, "Well, ya know, I think all lives matter!"

From the Tiger Rant:

quote:

U beat me to it... had to take a call. Glad u posted. He is FRICKED. let’s see how much stroke he has. Should it be ignored, he will know he can break any and all rules while he’s a coach. If he doesn’t get fired TODAY- we will know he is UNTOUCHABLE... I’ll be watching

This is what we've allowed our country to come to.

Absolutely despicable.

AGREE, even if this offends the coaches and team... I will never be able to say "all lives cannot matter until BLM"..

Quoting what Amb Andrew Young said recently at an event I attended " All lives Matter"
How can we seem to put one group above others, no one should lose their life without us being concerned.

obey the law and if protesting, protest peacefully,
Remember the teaching of Dr King as well as Ghandi.

Non-violenct protests can win where violence never will, you cannot force someone to your side of the argument; only beat them into momentary submission.

Does it really take a genius to appreciate it's obviously a play on words? All lives can't matter until BLM. Nowhere is anyone suggesting that everyone doesn't matter except those who are determined to continue to verbally hijack the argument at the most juvenile level.

This is nice, but it isn’t the motto. The motto is “Black lives matter”. If you say “Black lives matter too” I could deal with that because it’s true, but that isn’t the motto either.

My life matters

Got to be tough on all us white folks in this country making up only 73% of the population. With all the white privilege in our life, it's a wonder we have the courage and willpower to get out of bed in the morning.

I’m a minority in my town, and I’m fine with it.
