What’s the narrow position between “he’s going to be here 5 or 6 years regardless of progress as long as he doesn’t go under .500” and “I am sick of this bullshite and probably going to find other things to do on Saturdays if it continues”

I wasn't the fan that threw the brick at Bill's office, but I did start practicing this morning a daybreak.

I don’t think I want to take any advice about football from John L Smith.

I'm tired of this outside narrative that Bama just has impossible expectations. DeBoer just got extended after back-to-back four loss seasons.
"Oh, they want him fired after just one loss!" No. We want him fired after going just 19-10 against power conference opposition midway through year three. That includes just 7-5 in his last 12 games against power conference teams.
And we're not the ones inventing the idea that Bama should be winning at a higher level. Professional oddsmakers keep picking the Tide by multiple scores, only to see them lose, often in blowout fashion. They were favored by 8.5 in this game.
Lastly, what exactly has DeBoer accomplished that we should be remembering in times like this? No bowl victories. You'll see them say "They were in the conference championship game." But Bama backed in to that game on a weird tiebreaker due to the lack of divisions, then was completely uncompetitive. Ole Miss clearly should have gone instead.
"But he made the playoff!" As a marginal seed. They needed a very mediocre Oklahoma squad to implode through some unforced errors to get the first round win. Then he took the worst margin of defeat Alabama has had this century in the Rose Bowl.
At 12 teams, making the playoff just means the season was okay. At 24 next year, making the playoff is the bare minimum at Alabama. That's not a crazy expectation. It's basically just asking for a ranked finish.
It's tiresome to repeatedly hear the media say "Maybe Alabama fans will finally be won over" after every little fleeting success. You win the fans over with consistent winning and competitiveness even in losses.
Barring a just apocalyptic hire like Chad Morris or something, what we've gotten under DeBoer is what I would consider the realistic worst case scenario immediately post Saban. People had a preconception that Alabama fans would unfairly criticize Saban's successor, then it became a self-fulfilling prophecy any time anyone criticizes DeBoer.
Don't discount as well that part of why fans of other teams love defending DeBoer is because they know he will never make this team a legitimate contender. It's easy to like the coach of a hated program when he sucks. Bryan Harsin is my favorite Auburn coach of all time. Derek Dooley for Tennessee.

We are the most spoiled fanbase on the planet. Where we are right now is not in the same solar system as the worst case scenario post Saban.

Exactly. Problem is, so many Bama fans have been convinced by it and are afraid to be criticized by other fan bases lest they be called unreasonable. So they are simping for Deboer after getting embarrassed by Tennessee. It’s pathetic.
Hint Hint: Tennessee fans are very happy with many Bama fans’ current apathy and want us to keep Deboer forever.
