According to several Alabama beat writer twitter accounts....

quote:

Alex Byington ?@abyingtonTD Per Alabama, the 75-yard INT return for a TD by @jonathanallenj was officially changed to a fumble return for a score. So no Pick-6

quote:

Alex Byington ?@abyingtonTD The reason for the change is Chad Kelly's arm was never in a throwing motion, so it can't be an interception.

quote:

Matt Zenitz ?@mzenitz Was determined that Chad Kelly's arm was never moving forward. Tim Williams gets credit for a strip-sack

I wonder whose job it is to look at this and determine these things.

Also Williams got his sack so it's good.

Either way the play was pure awesome. Watching JA's big arse run down the field surrounded by people was amazing.

Happy for Tim Williams getting the strip/sack credit, but does anybody remember the FUMBLE by Kelly last year that was ruled as an incomplete pass on the field?

Wonder if the ball hit the ground, would it have still been ruled a fumble saturday. Ah well...

Anywhoo, Glad J. Allen didnt let it come down to interpretation... RTR!!!

Good for Williams to get his first sack, but kinda sucks thought because that was the 3rd straight game Alabama had a pick 6. Doesn't bother me either way, the big man scored and he deserved it.

At first I was a little disappointed.

But then this:

Made it all better.

We have to remember Tim is now an every down player. Has to chose his battles wisely to stay fresh.

When I first saw the replay, I thought it was a fumble but I was too happy with the score to really care...also happy Williams got credit for the sack since he caused the turnover no matter how It's defined...

He had 4-5 teammates running with him. Someone should have turned and decleated the OM player before he touched the ball carrier ..

I'm just glad Allen looked up at the jumbotron and saw that dude closing on him. He covered the ball with two hands right before he got hit.

"I'm looking at the screen the whole time making sure nobody comes up from behind, trying not to make a bone-headed play and fumble," Allen said. "Just making sure I cross the goal line and get down with the ball."

Ole Miss receiver Quincy Adeboyejo had a beat on Allen, sprinting from behind up the sideline. That's where the rearview camera came into play.

"Oh yeah, I saw him coming on the big screen so I just made sure to cover up and make sure I didn't do anything to mess up a good play," Allen said. LINK

So if the ball had bounced on the ground, I'm curious how the refs would have handled it right in the moment. ( the initial interception /fumble, not Allens play at the goaline)

I can almost guarantee they would have ruled it an incomplete pass on the field and in the review determined there wasn't clear enough evidence to overturn the call. Be happy Jon Allen caught that bad boy in the air.

SEC wanted to help the "Best QB in the SEC" keep his INT numbers down.
