“Start Coker over Sims”
“Start Derrick Henry as a true freshman”
“Dont fire Lane Kiffin before the NCG”
“Put Damien Harris on the bench and leave him there”
There are two or three folks on this board who routinely show their ignorance when it comes to Damien Harris, and I honestly don't understand it. Damien didn't have a great freshman season, and maybe that's clouding their judgement.
But if you look at the history of Alabama running backs, D. Harris is undeniably one of the greats. He averaged 6.4 yards per rush, on 477 rushes. That ties him with folks like Tony Nathan and Kenyan Drake.
Since 1956, only three running backs have had a higher average per rush:
- Wilbur Jackson: 7.2
- Eddie Lacy: 6.8
- Jalston Fowler: 6.5
(I'm excluding guys who only played a single season, or guys who are still on the team. Jase McClellan, for example, has a 10.7 average right now, but that's only on 23 rushes, most at the end of games.)
Some notable folks BEHIND Damien's average:
- Najee Harris (6.0)
- Derrick Henry (6.0)
- Josh Jacobs (5.9)
- TJ Yeldon (5.8)
- Mark Ingram (5.7)
- Bobby Humphrey (5.6)
- Johnny Davis (5.6)
- Linnie Patrick (5.5)
- Shaun Alexander (4.9)
Damien isn't the best running back to ever play at Alabama, but to act like he was some sort of scrub who shouldn't have been on the field shows breathtaking stupidity.

He drops passes and fumbles some that he catches. He had more lost fumbles than the rest of the WRs combined. That's with relatively few catches.
More TDs in national titles than all the returning receivers too.

This is correct. I was wondering if anyone was going to mention it.

That is not accurate.
Yes it is.

Can you provide of all fumbles he had the whole time he was with Alabama?
Naw, nobody is keeping a list as he drops balls, but I did watch every snap of last season, and I do have a decent memory- he definitely struggled with ball security last season.
I like Slade. I hope he doesn't have a single drop or fumble this upcoming season, but I'd prefer to not have to stress through watching him field punts this year.

Honestly, I don't even care about that.
I want to see him on kickoff coverage.

You targeted the wrong part of the statement.
That's the part where I said it was misleading, given that depth for WRs has little to no experience and it's not fair to say Bolden had more lost fumbles than rest of WRs combined.
Bolden is solid especially at the punt returner. For those who wants talented over experienced, I promise you when we hit the schedule where we play real good team, opposing team will key in on those players and make it hard for htem to get open.

That's fair enough, but he still doesn't give me the warm and fuzzies fielding punts. He was a little sketchy back there in that role last season.
He didn't have enough issues to warrant being labeled with bad hands last year, but he did have enough hiccups to cause concern going into this season.
I prefer having one of the guys on the roster that have elite gamechanging speed field punts and kicks, but I'll defer to the guy with 7 titles to make the right call. (but then recalls CNS trotting the TE out there on kick returns last season and then shakes head in acknowledgement that CNS is NOT perfect lol) (then recalls CNS has not used a strategic timeout in over a decade before half to score points and then chuckle at the notion he is without flaws)

"Punt returner is a work in progress with JoJo Earle, Ja’Corey Brooks, Camar Wheaton, Jameson and Slade Bolden in the mix."
I would bet that Earle or Brooks will be at PR. Slade is emergency backup.

No matter what else Metchie goes on to accomplish he will live for eternity as a Bama legend for that hit.

You misunderstand: Bolden lost more fumbles than all of the other receivers who played last year combined, not returned this year.
Bolden lost 2 fumbles (UTn & LSU) on 24 receptions, the rest of the WRs and TEs: Smith, Waddle, Metchie, et al. caught 248 balls with 0 fumbles lost, 0 fumbles at all. Not sure but I think that Slade fumbled another time but recovered it himself.
That doesn't mean he should not play or even start, just that he has a problem with his hands. He also dropped a couple or a few passes - I have no stats on that. The Bama WRs have set a very high standard, thus magnifying any errors but those things were noticeable with Slade. This also goes against stereotype.
IMO, Slade is a very good wildcat operator, in fact, I think he has converted every first down or TD, if any, that he has attempted. He has very good instincts as well as the footwork and agility to make such plays.
If he starts at the slot, that's fine with me knowing that CNS has his reasons but I wanted to point out that "hands" don't seem to be his strong suit as many claim. At least not to this point.
