And if one of those FOUR DEFENDERS had picked it off when Tua threw it, most of you would have been talking about what a dumb throw it was.

It was absolutely a high risk/high reward throw, but he made it. One of the big criticisms against Hurts is that he "only throws to guys that are wide open". If people are going to hold that against him, he deserves to be praised when he makes a play like that one.

People are still bitching about Jalen when our biggest problem on offense is the offensive line, followed by our young wide receivers' inconsistent play.

but I can't imagine that 11 of 24 is near great.

This is all I will contribute; the stat line should be 16 of 24 as there were 5 balls that hit the WR's in the hands that they just flat out drop. You can bitch and moan about Jalen all you want, but when the WR's drop balls that hit them square in the hands, anyone's stat line will look horrible.

Yeah. I didn't even mention the guy till one of the fan boys started talking shite. But, since he did...coulda shoulda woulda. Every quarterback has receivers drop a few catchable balls, so it's all relative.

Yeah. What the hell was I thinking. Everybody knows that connecting on passes where that blitzing linebacker was won't slow down the quarterback pressure. duhhhhh

It's on Daboll to call plays with route trees designed to do that.

So far ITT, you've stuck to your schtick on Jalen without even seeing his passing plays in the LSU game -- which is what we're discussing ITT.

It doesn't take long to watch the OP's videos. You could've watched them in the time you've spent posting ITT.

Maybe you should watch them carefully (without your blinders on) and then enlighten everybody with your expert analysis of Jalen's performance in the LSU game.

Awesome post. Jalen was REALLY good in this game. The completion percentage obviously was low, but there were very few passes of less than 10 yards thrown in the whole game. A couple drops hurt, as did the officials letting their DBs get away with some stuff. I thought when there was a pocket there he did a really good job of moving around while keeping his eyes down the field.

I thought it was the best game Hurts has had throwing the ball, even though the numbers don't show it. There were at least 2-3 passes that should have been caught.
He made what I thought was the most risky throw he's made all year (Cam caught) and that might be the best throw he's made all year.
I thought there were a couple of throws that he could have made better that were caught, that if he had thrown them where the WR could run after the catch we could have had big plays.
He waited a little long for me liking on the pass to Irv for the TD. Irv was open all the way across the field.
He also was late on the wheel route to the TE. It gave the LB time to take an angle and catch up and make the throw a lot tougher than it had to be.
I just hope our young WRs can get their confidence up for the stretch run.

Thanks for doing the videos they are great.

Few things I noticed that I didn't see at the game.

The screen pass was tipped at the line it wasn't a bad pass.

The throw to Ruggs was money and it looked like the cover man hit his legs early.

Young WR need to get used to catching in traffic.

I thought the guy tackled him early also. Otherwise Ruggs streak of TD catches remains intact.

I haven't had to time to rewatch all but I thought there was a play in the endzone when the receiver should have turned and high pointed instead of waiting for it to fall into his hands. I'll see if I can find it but it's an example of technique improvements the young guys can make.

Edit: 4Q 13:35 Devonta Smith, defender got there early but last year Stewart would have turned and high pointed that ball.

Prior to the season I was a tepid Hurts’ supporter. I thought he had severe limitations in both pre- and post-snap reads as well as just the physical throwing of the football. But, after watching him all season, anyone who can’t admit he has grown in both the physical and mental aspects of the QB position is being dishonest. Is he Peyton Manning as far as the cerebral game? No. Is he Dan Marino throwing the ball? Also, no. What he is is Jalen Hurts. A damn good college QB who will not be the reason we fail to win a NC.

I was more disappointed in Daboll in this game. For Harris to get as few carries as he did had me flashing back to the days of Pussmeier and “Dammit, Lane!” Our OL has problems in pass protection. But put them in a phone booth and let them straight line maul people and they are more than solid. It’s still beyond frustrating to have OC’s refuse to call games that maximize our talent advantages. One way to neutralize Key would have been to run “Power O” directly at him about 8 of the first 15 plays.

Arden Key is a monster and was up in our backfield all night as well as that other guy we recruited heavily but stuck with LSU (Williams?)

And as long as Hurts fails to make them pay by consistently connecting with receivers where those linebackers just vacated, we'll continue to see pressure on Hurts. He handles even a little pressure worse than any Alabama qb I can remember in a long time.

In general I agree with this. However, when Coach Saban flat-out challenged them to put the game away with about six minutes left in the fourth quarter, they promptly fell apart. I don't understand how that group as a whole can be so inconsistent.

Frankly, I think the inconsistent OL play is a reason for some of the justifiable frustration around Jalen. When he has time to scan the field and read the defense, he's very good. When he's pressured, he's been too quick to tuck and run in the past.

I think he's improved in this area; he's keeping his eyes downfield more when he scrambles, still looking to throw. But I think he's making sure his protection is holding up first before he scans the field, and that's why he sometimes seems slow delivering the ball. The inconsistent OL play has taught him to quickly check their blocking before he looks to throw.

All in all it wasn't too bad from the receivers. The LSU dbs were mauling them all night and the refs were letting them play. Some key drops though. Hopefully it's a learning experience for them.

Yeah the RB rotation was very strange in this game. And the runs Damien did get were a lot of the time slow developing plays that allowed the defense to blow things up quickly

I honestly thought Harris was hurt or something in the 4th.

It seems to me that Hurts has thrown the ball much better since that pick against Arkansas.
