I think he will stay and try to help us win a championship. Everyone quit melting, when everyone wants the next Saban our staff gets gutted every year. We will be ok.

I'd rather have Pruitt on the field for the playoffs than somebody who has never called a game with this team. I'll assume he's an adult and can focus on his job.

As much as I hate it that Pruitt is off to be the head coach of the Vols, the man has a lot of 'Bama in him. He played here, he graduated from here, and he has coached here off and on for the last 20 years. I have full faith and confidence in his desire to win another national championship for his alma mater. He will be on his A-game over the coming weeks to make sure that happens.

We all have a bad taste in our mouths about this because of what happened last year with Kiffin. Pruitt is not Lane Kiffin. He has ties to our university and has more maturity. Kirby Smart did a pretty decent job game planning for Michigan State after accepting the Georgia head coaching job. So it's not like this is going to severely cripple us.

We will see how that works especially with this early signing period. That could cause things to sour with him here. I’d prefer him calling the defense but he also needs to be focused in preparation and I’m not sure how possible that is.

Yes, frick Tennessee, but I hope he stays. I don't think he will be as distracted as Lane Kiffin was, because who could be more unfocused than Lane Kiffin?

I say he should stay, to avoid the craziness that would occur with a brand new DC. We've already seen how a brand new coordinator in the playoffs works.

An issue with Pruitt leaving isn’t him calling the defense, it’s that he coaches inside linebackers. Given our current situation at that position, it won’t be great to not have an inside linebackers coach.

Shouldn't be a big issue. It's common for one guy to coach all LB positions. Tosh & Saban should be able to handle it. Sean Hamilton can help too. Someone from shadow staff can move to on field coaching now too.

I remember all too well what Fulmer tried to do, dude. You don't need to remind me.

only problem with staying is he might do the same as Kirby and take our coaches and recruit our recruits and 5th yr players. Pruitt is under contract until 2019. Make fat boy buy him out.

The early signing period changes everything. There is no way he'll be able to successfully game plan for possibly two opponents, assemble a new staff and recruit for UT in such a short period. I can't find the quote but I remember Kirby saying how difficult it was to juggle both jobs.

I would assume he'll get more help than usual with the game planning. Where we actually need him is on the field during the game(s). We don't want to be breaking in someone new in a fast-paced, pressure-packed environment like that. I can see it now, 5 penalties for 14 men on the field, and/or Clemson snapping the ball with half our defense running on.

I don't love the double loyalty deal. I really wish there was some NCAA clause that mandated that coaches couldn't be contacted until their season is over. This would also stop idiot AD's from firing coaches during the middle of a season just to get a head start on a coaching search. The whole thing is unhealthy for all involved.

How much film/prep is Pruitt really doing for Clemson when he's trying to build his staff at UT and recruit a class? I get he can call the plays well...but Saban was a DC for years....you telling me he can't call plays anymore? Tosh can't call plays?

Unfortunately with early signing period now, it's likely to move in the opposite direction.

Is anyone else not really concerned with Pruitt leaving?

Lasts years defense would have made me look good as the DC.

This year's defense hasn't impressed me.

Wasn't impressed with his recruiting either.

Tosh is so important for recruiting and he will probably leave if he doesn't get the DC job.

This is a BAD hire for Tennessee, which is good for Bama.

I am concerned because Pruitt is a top notch recruiter which is harder to replace than a DC in this case. This is Saban's defense, not Pruitt's, though he did call the plays.
