In a world where Sexton came back, what would the expectations be for 18/19?

-Senior Riley Norris returns for 5th year

-Entire crew returns from the 17/18 campaign a year older

-All incoming redshirt transfers and freshmen enter the fray.

-Sexton, Man on a mission to end the season on a higher note than his freshman year.

Would Alabama be pre-season ranked?

I would expect 3-4 more wins in the regular season and an early exit in the tournaments. We still wouldn’t have a plan on offense other than “we need players to make plays”

Unless Petty becomes very consistent and Herb can give us a guaranteed 10+ a game as well, I think we'd only win 20 during the regular season and the round of 32 again in a close loss

ETA: I forgot about Mack. If he can be a consistent deep threat and 15 ppg player we won't need Herb to increase his scoring, but he really needs to.

If they all bust their asses and really work in the off-season they can be dangerous. We can't avoid the Sophomore slump we saw from Hale, Key and Ingram from Galin, Herb and Reese. Those guys need to bring it hard and let that experience and pain motivate them to get it done in the weight room and such. This team will have potential, but it is up to them.

We still lose to Kentucky in the tourney and get bounced by a Villanova or someone like them in the dance.

So we would still lose to maybe two of the best three teams in the country if we played them? Nice analysis...

We would most likely be better seed and wouldn’t play a team like Nova til the sweet 16. Nova is probably gonna win the whole tournament. We got a terrible draw this year based on our seed.

We'd have too many players on scholarship and be ruled ineligible for postseason play.

Yeah. A few guys are going to have to leave or not enroll.

If Sexton, Norris, and Davis all leave, I think we're at our scholarship max. If Sexton and Norris return, I think 2 other people (not counting Davis) will have to exit.*

*I'm assuming AJ Jr. is on scholarship.

He's on non athletic scholarship as coaches kids get free rides anyways.

Not sure how the NCAA views that.

pretty sure he's on scholly ...

far as what next year might hold, wouldn't matter with or without sexton if johnson doesn't figure out how to get some offensive flow going ... simply relying on players to 'make plays' gets you nowhere in the grand scheme of things unless you're unc or duke ... and even then, their coaches have an offensive philosophy that is noticeable ... i like the guy and enjoy his attitude and appreciate the uptick in performance, but we need a coach, not a marketing manager ... not sure he's enough of the former ...

I'm hoping Riley doesn't come back. Sadly, he's just not any good.

You're going to get roasted for that comment, buddy. Never mind that it's probably quite accurate, it doesn't sit well with the dispensers of sunshine and rainbows.

Probably as a non-athletic scholarship. We do it all the time in sports where the kids are really smart to stretch the limit. Softball, Gymnastics and Golf, who stress high GPA's will often switch a gal over to academic scholarship if they can qualify on their own merits.

Someone show me a team with great offensive flow that shoots 32.6% (good for 298th in the country) from 3 on mostly open attempts. I'll wait.

Why do y'all think the offensive flow looks great at times and terrible other times? It's because we shoot well from beyond the arc in those games where we look like a well-oiled machine. In games where we shot 40+% from three we averaged 81.5 PPG. Offensive flow is all about spacing. You can't have good spacing unless you shoot a respectable percentage from beyond the arc. You can blame Avery for not getting shooters in place to have good offensive flow, but the offense hasn't looked bad when we hit open shots.

IMO they run a NBA style offense with players who don't have the skill set. Sexton can get pretty much anywhere on the floor he wants. But that's about it. Petty is beyond streaky shooting the ball. Key, Ingram and Jones don't shoot well enough or create well enough off the dribble to just be hovering around the outside. They should just try cuts/back cuts in a motion offense to utilize their athleticism because they don't have the shooters to just stand around the arc.
