The loser of the first game has won 92% of the time in the rematch when two ranked teams have played each other twice in the same season. To take things further, count the mistakes made in that game.

1) illegal procedure to negate interception
2) slade/wildcat on 4th and 1?? Come on Sark
3) while out of our control, the confirmed catch for moss
4) dropped punt
5) Tua’s drop on first drive
6) Tua not 100%
7) Tua’s dumb interception before half that completely changed the dynamic of game. They scored 17 points in final 4 minutes of 1st half. Just terrible.

I could keep listing, but with that said, they were the better team last night no doubt. Beating them again in the playoffs/national championship for a second time in a decade would be so sweet though.

Given how we played in the 2nd half, when both teams played mostly mistake free, I think it's clear that if we play clean, we likely beat them.

Stringing 4 quarters of clean play together is a monumental struggle for this team though.

Offense would have to have an A++ game. I don’t have much faith in our D being able to stop them.

There's 2 words you need to start coming to terms with:

Pete.

Golding.

Do you not think Saban has a massive influence over how the defense is ran? It’s not just Pete Golding. Golding’s influence on the defense is second fiddle to Saban’s.

If Saban had anything to do, directly, with the defense we saw, yesterday, that- 9 games into the season- doesn't know who to cover, who's playing which position, what position to be in, what their assignment is, or even how many people can be on the field at one time in a football game and still can't cover and refuses to make a tackle, then Saban can get his behind on down the road right along with Pete Golding.

Fortunately, no, I don't believe any of that is on Saban.

Again, you need to come to terms with the fact that we have an inept DC and we're not winning the CFP, this year, and even if we make it, Golding and Mayden are just going to embarrass us... again. The sooner you do, the sooner you can accept reality and move on and focus on important things.

Ehh... our offense would have to play a near perfect game because ZERO chance our defense stops Burrow and company.

I was 100% sure in 2011 that we would win the rematch. It’s 50/50 at best for me this year

You can’t place the blame all on Golding. I’m not endorsing the guy but Saban has always ran that defense and if you think otherwise you’ve lost your mind.

The injuries, transferred players, and true freshman have more to do with the current state than anything else.

The defense stopped them the majority of the second half.

If you change the mistakes listed in my original post we win the game without changing a thing about how the defense played.

Doesn’t make you right. Honestly, neither you or I are qualified to speak on certainties regarding this issue.

That’s a little misleading. They were up 33-13. They aren’t going to the call the game the same way if the score was closer. Once it got to 33-27, and they opened the offense back up, we didn’t stop them again.

You are wrong to a certain degree. The play calling on the first drive of the half for them was not conservative. Neither was the drive after we brought it within two scores.

You can look at all the signs and see Saban has pulled back some. The dog shite defense, all the mistakes and penalties that previously would not have been tolerated, the inexcusable attempt to get points before the half that blew up in our face. Saban NEVER does that. He gets to the locker room down one score and happy to be in the game with all the unforced errors made.

Saban is more CEO than coach now.

If that’s the case and you are correct it’s my opinion that it’s time for him to retire. I don’t think you’re 100% correct though.

The dog shite defense is due to true freshmen, transfers, and injuries. You can’t lose what we’ve lost in the middle of the field and expect to be elite. It’s unreasonable to think otherwise.

I’d say we have a chance, but wouldn’t be near as confident as in 2011. I knew we had the better team that year. This time, it would all depend on which D could get a stop or two. I wouldn’t have a lot of faith in the group we had on the field on Saturday

Do you know for certain who calls the plays and what percentage of the time Saban overrules the play if it is in fact Pete Golding that is calling the majority? No, you do not. Therefore, you don’t know what you’re talking about and neither do I. So, we probably should just stick with saying the defense looks like shite and let Saban do coach evals at the end of the season. Saban has interviewed a lot of coaches over the years and for him to say Golding’s knowledge of the defense was the among the most impressive he’s ever seen is saying something.

Was that the play where they got a terrible spot by the official?
