I don't like it when schools name fields in stadiums. No one ever remembers the field. I never think of Pat Dye Field.

I think they should add to the name of something already there. For ages, it was just Denny Stadium, before it became Bryant Denny Stadium. I don't really understand why the same couldn't be done for Mal Moore for some other structure.

Mal M. Moore Athletic Facility

"Widely considered one of the finest facilities of its type in the nation, the Mal M. Moore Athletic Facility is the centerpiece of Crimson Tide Athletics and home to the Alabama football program. The south wing of the building houses senior administrators of the athletic department, while the north side holds the football offices.

The building, which underwent two renovations since 2005, contains a state-of-the-art training room featuring aquatic rehabilitation pools. The building also houses a 20,000 square foot strength and conditioning center, which is one of the largest collegiate strength and conditioning centers in the nation."

If any of you haven't seen the trophies on the second floor of the Mal Moore building, you are missing out. My husband likes it better the the Bryant Museum.

quote:

The Hall of Champions located on the second floor of the building highlights Alabama's rich football history. Trophy cases for each of the Tide's 13 national championships are located in the Hall of Champions, as well as a large case featuring the program's 22 Southeastern Conference championships. The Hall features individual accomplishments as well, including a trophy case for some of the more recent individual awards received by Crimson Tide football players. Mark Ingram's 2009 Heisman Trophy stands on a marble pedestal in the middle of the Hall. Every Alabama football player to be named a first team All-American, as well as those inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame are recognized with individual plaques in the Hall.

I think the "Mal Moore Athletic Facility" alone serves as the ideal tribute to Mal Moore's legacy at the Capstone.

he deserves all the recognition in the world... but always good to let the emotional part run its course before making decisions like those.

walk of champs is for head coaches that have won NC's, period. at least that's how i saw it.

but put 100 statues all over campus for all i care... plaster his name all over.. put a concrete memorial somewhere cool... idk. but not the walk of champs.

RIP Mal.

he was a coach...player...and AD. He was a champion...and he holds more national champions than any other individual at bama.....if you asked Saban...he would say he Mal is a Champion. I understand what bear has done. I in no way meant to discredit the bear.....Im was just pointing out in the last 25 years other than Saban (which he gets and deserves a lot of praise) Mal has done more for Bama than anyone else. and as some other believe he has done more than Saban......He will always be a champion in my book. RIP....I dont hink naming the stadium works....Be deserves to be remembered as a champion like the rest. Bronze it up!

I hate to be all negative and everything. Coach Moore was great for the University's football program and was a great ambassador. But the bottom line is, we can't and shouldn't just throw up a statue for whomever we want. If everyone has a statue, they don't mean anything. Being a great AD and OC doesn't immortalitize you.

So many great UA people are now easily forgotten (Hank Crisp, George Denny, ect.) but the championship football coaches and their accomplishments will be remembered forever and the current generations will take the effort to pass along the stories the previous generation has given to us.

Sorry for the rant. This isn't specifically directed at the OP or Coach Moore, but more of everyone who wants to put statues everywhere on campus.

i'm all for him being honored.

but he doesn't meet the simple criteria is all i'm saying. my understanding was that you have to be a HC when we win a national title. then you get one.

that's about right, right?

Mal Moore was a humble man. I believe he was honored by having a building on campus named after him. That served his legacy well.

Alabama will miss him and his service.

He was and always will be a big deal in Tuscaloosa and at The University of Alabama.

after listening to a lot of his close friends call in to bham talk radio, they said he would not want to be remembered that way. I think something will be done but a statue I am thinking no

Why does it have to be head coaches? Where is that "rule"? They all just happen to be head coaches so far.....I think because he was a championship coach....a championship ad......and around champion he deserves it.

Then where's the Denny statue?

I'd say quite a few people have had a bigger impact on UA athletics than some of those that have statues out there.

Exactly. Here are some deserving of statues by OP's logic

Xen Scott (really laid the foundation for Wade), Hank Crisp, George Denny

They should put a statue of him in the Mal Moore building. I haven't been in the building so I have no idea if it would work. It would be nice to have something people can actually look at and remember Mal rather than just a building named after him. I don't think I can tell you who 80% of the people buildings are named after are.

A bust, or a portrait perhaps would be fine with me. Statues are such sacred things and everyone just can't have one

Agreed.

No more statues. Let's not get silly.
