Recruiting scoop, observations from Pylon Atlanta (247Sports-VIP | segments)
quote:

Here is a compilation of observations and notes from Sunday's Pylon Atlanta 7v7 tournament...

Four-star McEachern (GA) wide receiver Javon Baker made some of the most phenomenal catches of the tournament. He can jump out of the gym and has a knack for high pointing the football. Baker was an absolute monster in the red zone and led his loaded team in touchdowns. Baker is fully committed to the Crimson Tide. (hudl)

Four-star Grayson (GA) quarterback CJ Dixon made some really eye opening throws. He can certainly laser it in and throws a really good ball downfield. However, he needs to continue to improve on reading defenses and being more consistent overall. Dixon has a lot of potential but also needs a lot of polishing. The Crystal Balls are currently with Georgia, but Dixon is very high on Alabama and will visit soon. (hudl)

Good thing many of the greatest rbs in history didn’t have much better times in the 100 than Milton, so he should be fine.

I know Trent ran a 10.5, which was lights out for his size. Ingram was All State with a 10.6, but Najee Harris was roughly like Milton with a 11.19.

The Opening Houston: Top Performers (247Sports | segments)
quote:

Zachary Evans

KATY, TX – The Opening was in Texas for the second time in three weeks, this time for its Houston Regional. Several of the Lone Star state's top prospects from the 2020, 2021 and 2022 cycles made their way to Legacy Stadium to take part in what was an event deep with talent, especially in the skill groups. 247Sports was on hand to catch several impressive individual performances...

*** Five-star running back Zachary Evans entered the day as the top prospect on hand and certainly didn’t disappoint in the limited time on field. Evans has always been among the 2020 cycle’s top overall athletes and that remains the case. At 5-foot-11, 200 pounds, he possesses an elite build and once again posted some outlandishly good testing numbers- a 4.51 second 40-yard dash, 3.84 second short shuttle (an absurd time) and a 37.2 inch vertical. Top247 running back Seth McGowan was also on hand and had a strong day while fighting through some knicks...

*** Houston (Texas) Cy Ridge defensive tackle Vernon Broughton is impressive on the hoof and had his moments on Sunday. The 6-foot-5, 286-pounder is new to football and is still developing from a technical standpoint but flashed his upside...

Yea think that's where he ends up. Clemson seems to have a strong connection to that school now. Plus his ex-teammate showing us up in a championship game could not have helped. He gone.

Yep, I'm thinking that's why Bama went ahead took Traeshon Holden. But for all I know Bama may like Holden as much if not more than EJ.

Yep! I also noticed in the article that Zachary Evans apparently measured 5-11/200 at The Opening in Houston instead of the 6-0/213 that 247 had him listed at on his profile page. Eta: 247 has updated his htt/wt on his profile now, but not his testing results yet.

Texas RB target Zachary Evans posts elite Opening test results (Horns247)
quote:

As if a junior season where he helped lead Galena Park North Shore to a 16-0 record, the UIL Class 6A Division I state championship and the MaxPreps national championship wasn’t enough to prove his status as one of the truly elite 2020 prospects in the country, five-star running back Zachary Evans put on a show in testing at The Opening Regional in Houston on Sunday. The No. 2 overall prospect in the 247Sports Composite rankings and the No. 10 overall recruit in the Top247 for 2020, Evans posted a rating of 135.84 that’s going to finish as one of the best scores in the country and puts him in the 99th percentile nationally.

The score, which combines an athlete’s test results in the 40-yard dash, pro agility, vertical jump, power ball throw and a peak power measurement, isn’t that far off from the national-high mark of 137.94 posted by Top247 linebacker Kourt Williams (Bellflower, Calif./St. John Bosco) last month. Evans was officially 5-feet-11-inches, 200 pounds and was clocked at 4.51 seconds in the 40-yard dash, a time that could’ve made for a higher score had the official time been in line with what multiple reporters (including Mike Roach of Horns247) said was as low as a 4.40.

The 4.51 is still elite, ranking in the 99th percentile nationally. Evans had a vertical jump of more than 37 inches and an eye-popping shuttle time of 3.84 seconds. All of Evans’ test results are either in the 98th or 99th percentile of all of the athletes tested during The Opening Regional events held across the country so far this spring.

The nation’s No. 1-ranked running back prospect according to both the 247Sports Composite and the Top247, Evans has a strong case to be the top overall prospect on the board for Tom Herman and Texas in the 2020 recruiting cycle. Along with being one of the best running back prospects to come out of the state in recent years, the Longhorns missed on a pair of elite backs in the 2019 cycle with the IMG (Fla.) Academy duo of Noah Cain and Trey Sanders signing with Penn State and Alabama, respectively.

Texas is currently going through spring practice with four scholarship running backs, one of whom is early enrollee Jordan Whittington. The 247Sports Composite five-star prospect the 2019 cycle was needed in the backfield with Keaontay Ingram, Daniel Young and Kirk Johnson accounting for the only returning runners from what was a crowded backfield before Toneil Carter, Tristian Houston and Kyle Porter all transferred out of the program with eligibility remaining.

Evans told Horns247 recruiting editor EJ Holland last month that the Longhorns remained in his top group, but he’s still planning on not making a decision until closer to National Signing Day in February 2020. Evans told Holland he likes the job Herb Hand is doing recruiting along the offensive line and he respects Lake Travis quarterback and future Longhorn Hudson Card, but the likes the overall direction of the program following the team’s win over Georgia in the Sugar Bowl to finish off a 10-win season and achieve the program’s first top-10 finish in the national polls since 2009.

“Texas stands the same,” Evans said. “It’s just about me getting back to campus. I’ll be up there soon. I know they are already building their offensive line. They have the hype right now. I think they’ll live up to it. I mean, they beat Georgia.”

Okay.. I played pro and also ran track in high school (200, 400, 4×1, 4x4, long, triple) and that time just isn't elite.

Again it isn't slow, it's just not very impressive.

I don't know why some of you are getting sensitive about this.

Then during the season you complain about Najee Harris straight line speed and he according to another poster ran his PR in the same range.

Another thing you are comparing his PR to what kids run in the finals which if you have run know it isn't necessarily their own PR. If you want to be more accurate you would compare his PR to every other kids. Out if that list in Texas the last 3 didn't run PRs.

No idea where he ends up, I just don't think it will be at Alabama.
