I know you don’t actually follow recruiting but Bama is actually doing pretty well recruiting, and landing, linebackers right now. If you want your shtick to work this year you should keep up.

I follow recruiting a good bit, that is why I know Bama has missed badly at ILB the last few recruiting classes.

While Alabama had the #1 ranked class last year and sits at #3 for 2020, the staff has missed several high profile ILBs in the last few classes. It’s a glaring need next year.

We aren’t used to it, but the state hasn’t produced elite Mike and Will LBs lately either. That always helped. Grab those Alabama kids and land elite national ILBs to go with them.

The state does have Demouy Kennedy, OLB ranked 85th overall by composite.

Though Bama offered just 2 days ago...

Kennedy, Robinson, and Riley don’t seem to have the frame necessary for ILB. Bratton has size. But have no idea what his ceiling is.

I could be mistaken but I believe that the state hasn’t produced an elite ILB since the 2016 class (which explains the drop off in ILB depth last year).

It’s also worth noting that Alabama has only landed two OOS five star ILBs in Saban’s tenure.

Elite doesn’t necessarily mean five star.

One big issue with claiming we're are paying for players is Saban's coaching tree. If Saban was paying, the coaches who leave the school would know about it and one would be more than happy to knock him out of the saddle by leaking info. Add to that the number of coaches that left with a sour taste in their mouth and the number that have left because they didn't put in the time recruiting that Saban requires and you could easily find one that would happily burn the bridge. But they haven't, so that tells me that there is no fire, and the only smoke is coming from a dude on a message board rubbing sticks and trying to set his balls on fire.

The previous post just showed how i can lose focus. I came here to ask if anyone had heard if there is any interest in the five star CB that just put himself in the transfer portal from Florida.

Seems ILB is where Golding is recruiting Kennedy at, as he offered in person.

I think his frame is better ILB than OLB certainly, he's just light right now. Think it's much harder to be an effective ILB the taller you are.

I don’t even recall Alabama pursuing him heavily. Alabama signed a pretty damn good DB class for 2019. But you can never have too many good ones. So who knows? I didn’t think we’d go after a transfer RB either

Four-star LB signee eager to begin career at Alabama Andrew Bone • BamaInsider.com @AndrewJBone Speaking of ILB's

quote:

Christian Harris, four-star linebacker from University Lab School in Baton Rouge, La, surprised many when he committed to Texas A&M last summer. He had visited Alabama several times throughout the year. Many considered the Crimson Tide the favorite to land his signature. He had also visited Tuscaloosa the week prior to his decision.

Harris committed to the Aggies, but Alabama did not let up in its recruiting efforts. Defensive coordinator Pete Golding remained in close contact throughout the fall which led Harris to take an official visit during the Iron Bowl weekend. He announced his flip to the University of Alabama a few days later.

Harris did not enroll early, but signed in December to eliminate any late drama leading up to signing day in February. The current 6-foot-2, 237-pound athlete is set to arrive in Tuscaloosa on May 27.

He will make the move from playing on both sides of the ball to strictly playing one position for the Tide. Pete Golding was his lead recruiter and position coach throughout the recruiting process. Coach Golding moved to full time defensive coordinator.

"I am really just trying to make sure I stay in shape," Harris said. "Coaches have been telling me it's something I should focus on.

"I am excited. I feel like I'll really be able to focus and excel at the backer position. Coach Golding is a great guy. I think he’s going to be one of the best defensive coordinators in college football.

"He has just talked to me about how they see me playing at 'will' backer and just having to come in ready to compete for a spot because the opportunity is there. Nothing is given. I'm going to have to earn everything, and I'm willing to do that."

Harris can't wait to arrive in Tuscaloosa later this month. He knows he will room with freshman cornerback and May enrollee, Marcus Banks. He will likely have one other roommate. He will officially join the Crimson Tide as one of the top incoming freshmen classes in the Nick Saban era.

"I think we have a great group of guys," he said. "We’re all willing to do whatever it takes to help our team win. Those are the kind of guys I want to be around.

"I am just trying to go in and learn as much as I can from the older guys, but still compete every day."

I agree. But don’t tell that to some of the posters on this board.
