I would hardly call Alexander's time at Alabama "dark days". He played on a SEC title team in 1999.

Lots of favorites, but Prothro is probably tops.

I was a big Tyler Watts fan too though.

My bad. I am from Alabama now, dont go expecting good grammer, and a equal/open minded way of thinking.

Forgot about him. He's probably 2nd to Prothro for me.

Brodie Croyle for me. When he was healthy he could tear teams up. Ask Florida. He had a hell of an arm too. He just never played for good teams.

What are we classifying as "dark days"? If we are going with the two probation eras (1995-2006) I will say Shaun Alexander. If we are going with the shittier of the two probation eras (2002-2006) I will go with Tyrone Prothro.

Dark days are definitely from 2000 to the start of Saban's era.

So 2000 to 2006, inclusive.

DJ Hall--problem child and bad attitude for Saban, "looks like Tarzan plays like Jane" NFL assessment--no thank you.

I'll take Prothro, Fredie Milons, Brody Croyle, DeMeco Ryans and Shaud Williams for 1000, Alex.

Cornelius Wortham - always felt he got dealt a raw deal in Seattle.

Forgot about him. Despite being down, Bama had some solid LBs back then that would fit Sabans system like a glove. Cornelius Wortham, Brooks Daniels, Saleem Rasheed, Demeco Ryans, Freddie Roach, Daniel Pope.

Daniel Pope would have been an awful LB under Saban

Now Derrick Pope was a LB under Saban...in Miami.

DJ Hall is mine too

The only excuse anyone has for listing DJ Hall as a favorite is if he is a close relative of yours.

And in that case, if he is, please do me a favor and remind him that he is a certified POS.

Embarrassment to Alabama football.
Would've fit in better at Auburn or Miami.

But to answer the OP, Lane Bearden.

Pay no mind to his position (punter) and injury (torn ACL, unrepaired at the time), he would still spear you like Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Maybe I'm reading that wrong, but Derrick Pope did play at Alabama. He was a Fran JuCo signee in 2002. He was drafted in the 7th round in 2004.

I meant it as he did technically play under Saban, as he was saying they would have been good under Saban(in college).

I remember, though as a kid, that Pope had this huge billing before he got to Bama. He was suppose to be this gamechanger, but ended up as just a really solid player.

Go look at how Rivals ranked prospects out of Garden City C.C. in '01, it's ridiculous looking at it now.

His uncle was an assistant under Fran too. His brother was a solid WR/Ath. out of Houston, but stayed home and played for UH.

Those were my first couple of year at Alabama. Those were dark days. Fighting C-USA teams for prospects.
