He and I lived in the same apartment complex in Tuscaloosa back in 2011. One day his little dog got free of him and I helped chase the thing down. That night, at Innisfree, Hightower came into the bar wearing a houndstooth hat and smoking a cigar. I felt a big hand fall on my shoulder, looked up, and saw him staring down at me. He said, "You're a good man." And then walked away.
