Does anyone know how the NIL payments are made?

If Downs gets his OhioSt $$$ in one payment before the season starts, what would stop him from transferring back to BAMA in the spring?
It would take some serious arse gangster arse balls to pull this off, but it's like anything else. There's all kinds of shite you can't do, until somebody does.

I’ve always assumed these “deals” are contingent on a player making the fall roster.

The other school has to buy out your current contract, so the NIL affiliation doesn’t lose anything but what the player was due.

So Downs signed a 1-year "deal" with a booster of OhioSt?
I'm not trolling. I don't understand the NIL very well.

He’d have to get a waiver to play this season if this weird scenario were to occur. If you transfer more than once, you have to sit out a year without a waiver.

To add…they are supposed to be students. What if they end up in a class where they don’t make grades and become ineligible? Granted I haven’t heard of that in a long time, but what if…

It’s an unsubstantiated number, give it very little weight

It doesn’t have to be a 1 year deal. It can be multi but whatever is breached has to be paid back like a coach buyout. The organizations do it just like the schools. It’s not directly with Boosters, Ohio State will have an LLC that runs it like Bama does and the money comes in and out of that.

Kiffin just put out a tweet about Ohio State already spending $13M in NIL money on players, and the article doesn’t included them paying Downs yet. I’m not vouching for the article, but if that’s even close to the number before Diane’s and Sayin, that’s an unreal amount of NIL money.
Are they funded better than everyone else?
Is Bama funded anywhere even close to that?

There are definitely different ways to attack this new Era of college football.
The guys that are trying to stack talent like Saban/Kirby were/are behind the 8-ball unless you have tejas $$$. But who gives a frick if tejas has four 5* qbs on their roster? They can only play 1 at a time. Some guys will take $$$ to ride the pine, but some guys will take less to get on the field.
Where coaches are going to earn their paychecks in this new Era isn't going to be their ability to recruit, but their ability to identify and develop players for their system.
What is Kirby's scheme? Out-talent everybody. His ability to do this will fade because uga doesn't have tejas $$$ to stack talent.
I believe BAMA has hired a coach ahead of his time that understands what it takes to win in the years to come. Get a guy that fits your system instead of building a system that is essentially to have the most talented team possible.
Having a coach that can recruit 5* players are few and far between. There are going to be less of them now because of NIL. Give me a coach that can win with 3* & 4* guys because there are a lot more 3* & 4* players to be had and for a lot less $$$.
BAMA has to play moneyball.

Gotcha. So, in your opinion, how much $$$ would an LLC need to compete at a high level of NIL? $100m? $50m? $20m?
What kind of affiliation to the university would said LLC need?
